The following link brings up ambitious plans to extend this GER line beyond Ongar to Dunmow or back to the GER mainline at Chelmsford that never saw the light of day. http://www.urban75.org/london/ongar.html

While a map of the former scheme known as the Central Essex Light Railway is shown on page 7 running up to Haverhill in the PDF below, do anymore details exist on the scheme running from Ongar back onto the GER mainline at Chelmsford? Particularly if the route of the latter was to envisioned running straight from Ongar to Chelmsford or were new stops planned along the way? https://colonelstephenssociety.co.uk/onewebmedia/Colonel 65.pdf

Thanks for the recommendation, will look to try and track down a copy.

Is it specifically the later editions that would have what am looking for or will the earlier editions suffice? Additionally are other proposed schemes from the GER and other companies included?
I have a copy of the 4th edition, and while it's an excellent and useful book, I can't see any reference to a proposed extension beyond Ongar.

Edit to add:

In "London's Local Railways", Alan A Jackson lists five schemes for extensions beyond Ongar:
  • 1860 to Great Dunmow
  • 1888 to Bury St Edmunds via Great Dunmow
  • 1901 to Yeldham via Great Dunmow
  • 1919 to Shenfield
  • 1920 to Dunmow
The latter three were proposed as Light Railways.

None of the schemes were able to raise enough money to start construction.

He also states that the GER considered a link to Chelmsford, but never formalised a proposal.

The 3rd and 5th edition say about a new station at Epping Glade. Epping Glade would be 500m south of Coopersale.

Just for clarification, that is in the 4th edition too, but the OP was asking about historic extensions beyond Ongar, not preservation era plans.
