Hi all,
DB will be severly affected by industrial action from tomorrow.
It will most likely last longer than the initial three days with waves of strikes expected.
A lot of it seems to be a conflict of power between two unions.

GDL again.

If it's anything like the last one (2015?) this will probably drag on for months.

I got caught up in one of those in October 2014. I was able to check the date, as I remember the effect on the trip very well...

Yes, that previous GDL strike did start in 2014 but it was still going on in May 2015 when I managed to get back home from Köln via a last minute booking on Thalys!

GDL and DB have reached agreement so no more strikes for now.

However, the other larger railway union EVG had a clause in their existing agreement to permit that agreement to be suspended should another union negotiate a better deal so they will be starting their negotiations with DB shortly.

DB have already announced they will offer the GDL deal to the EVG too. I don't think further problems are expected there.

The agreement runs for 32 months, so best make a note in your diary now not to plan any holidays to Germany in May 2024.

Good news that EVG are unlikely to be troublesome and also useful to know when Clause is likely to kick off again! :D
