Not an easy journey to make on a Bank Holiday Monday - there are engineering works in various places, especially late that evening, so it won't be cheap or easy. It's difficult to get from Exeter to Liverpool that evening at all, let alone save money on it :(

Just look up advance fares to London, and then use Oyster to get to Liverpool Street. Alternatively see if advance fares to Stratford are available, this will include a cross-London transfer.

The cheapest tickets will have sold out a long time ago I'd suspect, unless you're prepared to travel at an obscure time. Early morning would be quietest on a bank holiday.

Sorry Yorkie.. Wrong station  ;)

(i've just looked up the fares to Liverpool, and can't find any cheaper tickets, even on the VT legs from Tamworth)

Well you didn't say you had to arrive the same day, so currently:

Exeter St Davids - Paddington (zone U1)
dep EXD 1732, arr PAD 1955, transfer to KGX
£19.45

Kings Cross - Leeds
dep KGX 2200, arr YRK 0042, dep YRK 0146, arr LDS 0215
£8.25

Leeds - Liverpool Lime Street
dep LDS 0555, arr PIC 0650, dep PIC 0707, arr LIV 0757
£7.50 (no railcard discount)

Total: £35.20

Leaves plenty of time for late arrivals too!

:D Bit convoluted, but here goes...

1723 Exeter St Davids to Bristol Parkway, arrive 1838. Off peak single (with Railcard discount) = £14-50.

1911 Bristol Parkway to Newport Gwent, arrive 1936.

1948 Newport Gwent to Chester, arrive 2234.

2300 Chester to Liverpool James Street, arrive 2339.

Advance single (Bristol to Liverpool) = £10-55. (with Railcard discount)

P.S. There's a bus from James Street to Lime Street if you want to do the final leg.

Total: £24-55.

Cheers Guys,

My mate has actually booked the tickets. Unsure of the times but it's 1729 departing EXD arriving in LIV at 2349 changing at Taunton, Bristol TM, Bham NS, Coventry AND Nuneaton

7 hours, 7 trains! Fun!
