I have just found out on the GWR website that Gloucester station will have no trains calling at it from Sunday 21st to Monday 22nd July and from Tuesday 23rd until Friday 26th have bus replacements to Cheltenham and Stroud. https://www.gwr.com/travel-updates/planned-engineering/cotswolds
Upgrade work is planned around Worcester and Gloucester this year to further improve reliability and the performance of train services.

Most of the engineering work by Network Rail will take place at weekends. However, some work in July around Gloucester will affect weekday train services.

June and July
Sundays 9 and 16 June
Trains will be unable to call at Worcester Shrub Hill.

Buses/coaches replace trains between Evesham/Cheltenham Spa and Worcester Foregate Street.

Sunday 21 and Monday 22 July
Trains will be unable to call at Gloucester.

Buses/coaches will replace trains between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa/Stroud/Cam & Dursley.

Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 July
Some services will be able to call at Gloucester.

Buses/coaches will replace trains between Gloucester and Cheltenham Spa/Stroud.
I know it won't be confirmed exactly what will be happening yet is it likely that GWR Worcester to Bristol services will still run avoiding Gloucester and Will Cross Country from Birmingham to Bristol be affected by this?
Also is there a reason why GWR can give dates for planned work this far in advanced but some operators can not do this?

GWR usually do give information well in advance, what the other operators do is up to them as they don't have to. XC services on the Birmingham to Bristol route will hardly be affected as there are only 2 trains a day that call there and it would be served by buses to/from Cheltenham. At a guess, the Cardiff to Nottinghams would serve Gloucester by buses between Lydney and Cheltenham but this would depend on the operating practicalities involved

A few XC services on the NE / SW axis do call at Gloucester so will probably just run direct and avoid Gloucester. For the Nottingham to Cardiff services one would hope they would divert via Severn Tunnel to reach Cardiff but somehow I could see them terminating at Bristol Parkway or even worse perhaps at New Street.

It is the Bristol and Swindon route trains that cannot call at Gloucester so Cardiff-Nottinghams and north Severnside stations are unaffected. It must be the curve from Horton Road round to the avoiding line that is being worked on.

I wish posters would not assume such rubbish without knowing all the facts.

How will the Worcester to Bristol services be affected as most trains northbound are overtaken by a fast XC service when at Gloucester?

Had been told two years ago, NR had a plan to replace standish and abbots wood junctions, is this what they are going to do.

Standish was done only about 20 years ago, it shouldn’t need doing again for a while!

Does anyone know when the timetable for these dates will be released?

A 80mph turnout onto the Swindon line would save time and fuel over accelerating up the hill from 40mph
