I guess I’m just less temperature sensitive - I have never got on a 700 / 707 / 717 and thought it’s too cold, or too hot for that matter (except twice I found a coach without working air con, so moved to the next coach).

Opening a window on a 365 really isn't a good way to cool yourself down unless the train is really moving and you're in the air flow (and your window isn't the window that puts air on you). The personal vents are mega hit and miss as to whether they're working on or not, and as they age I assume even fewer work than when I was a regular user of them.

GN Twitter have confirmed that there are 4 717s in service today (Saturday).

With so few today, I do not anticipate all that many on August Bank Holiday. I am due to go from London Bridge to Finsbury Park then and hope to do a 717 to Moorgate but realise this might be difficult without a long wait.

They’re a lot better now, no doubt a product of the less intensive use over the last year or two. Having said that I tend to switch them off - much prefer to have windows open. I know exactly where to sit to get the desired effect too! (You’re spot on that it does depend where one sits to some extent).

There won’t be any at all in service on the August Bank Holiday.. we aren’t running any services on GN, other than Kings Lynn to Cambridge. Would strongly suggest you postpone your trip as otherwise it will indeed be a very long wait - until Monday morning!

What is odd is that the National Rail website only states the closure for Saturday & Sunday, with a reduced service on the Monday when I am in London.

Ah, my apologies! I assumed you meant you would be travelling at the weekend itself as opposed to the Monday as you were referring to the amount of 717s out today. Indeed, all being well there will be a reduced service on the Monday.

Thank you for your assurance that the line is indeed open on August Bank Holiday. I could seek to do buses quickly, then reach Finsbury Park with plenty of time to spare before my train home to maximise my chance of riding a 717!

I think they only need 8 diagrams for the weekend service.

This is probably true but they don’t use the 717s much at the weekend.

Saturday I understand only has 3 diagrams. (The list I saw is 2 weeks old - the poster above saying 4 could be correct)

Sunday travelling between WGC and Finsbury Park on a slow service didn’t see a single 717 working. (Not saying non were).

But the 313s are preferred at weekends. Maybe they avoid the 717s to keep the service reliable.

I caught a 717 on the Hertford Loop on Sunday 7th. Overheard staff at Finsbury Park platform 8 who believed only one 717 was in operation on Sunday. Anyone able to clarify Sunday diagrams? I was actually very surprised to get a 717 pulling into Enfield Chase as I thought only one operated, and this was to/from WGC on Sundays.

Services can do Moorgate to WGC to Moorgate to Hertford/Watton or whatever, and so forth.

Not seen the Sunday diagrams published recently. But I have seen them on the WGC route as well. I suspect engineering work most weekends makes them difficult to publish. The week I saw one on the WGC line was in the morning shuttling to New Barnet.

Last Saturday the 09:28 WGC to Moorgate was a class 717. It appeared they had 2 class 717 diagrams between WGC and Moorgate.

By coincidence I was on a service which was part of the HE55 diagram. It was a 313.

I suspect that they don’t have enough drivers trained yet to have many 717s out on Sunday as they rely on volunteers.

With driver changes at Finsbury Park even a single run needs 2 drivers.

Sundays is very hit and miss, very few if any 717s in service. On weekdays I'm never on 313s anymore.

Some of the seats had a brown surprise left on them

We have some lovely people in this country! <(

Use the CCTV on the 717 to find out who it was, get them and rub there face in it, then make them clear it all up.

I travelled on a 717 for the first time on Saturday as my usual train was typically cancelled due to lack of train crew (well it was a Saturday).
The seats are far too hard for doing a 40+ minute journey - maybe they'll soften up a bit after some usage. It can get quite intimate trying to use the single plug underneath the middle of the seats when the seat next to you is occupied. Maybe a redesign with two slightly slanted sockets away from each other would be a good future improvement. \_/ WiFi worked flawlessly throughout. Air con was working great too.

Wait for the fighting when the person next to you wants to plug in their charger!!

I have noticed the air is now cooler inside the last few 717s I've been on. Maybe they've had the default temperature turned down a notch. Still not encountered a hot 700 - but it has been cooler this week.

The Moorgate tunnels are deffintley getting warmer with all the class 717s down there. I've noticed it just before 19:40 at Moorgate as the 19:25, 19:30 and 19:40 are all class 717s. The hot air from the air con units has to go somewhere!

Surely it's not feasible to keep the air con on through the tunnels forever, unless they're expected to cool down through colder months when the air con isn't as used.

I am not the only one noticing this. I feel sorry for the platform staff. But last week Moorgate was very hot. Us passengers just get on the train so not down as long. Not sure if other stations are suffering or if the non terminal stations have the train airflow helping. (The trains of course are not stood as long)
