Amongst the other flapping tonight, the 1820 Moorgate to Watton was canned and put into the bay at Gordon Hill.

I was on the following last GH terminator of the night which was hence put into platform 2 to terminate.

Considering how ultra cautious GN have been about platform stopping points and using SDO where entire trains are well in platforms, I was rather amused that the front door was opened almost entirely off the end of the marked platform. The ramp on that platform at Gordon Hill is fortunately rather shallow...!

To be honest I was more excited about my first down train into the up platform... but does seem a bit of an oversight!

The stop marker on gordon hill platform 2 in the down direction is weirdly far off the platform. I do wonder the reasoning. Perhaps someone forgot to program the SDO for that platform. If I remember correctly, when the 717s first entered service, there was a restriction that said no passenger service into platform 2 in the down direction. But that restriction has been removed.

One time on a preview service from Moorgate to Gordon Hill, my 717 went into platform 2 at gdh, without reason. Driver just stopped at the end of the platform not the marker.

Any news on any reliability improvements in the pipeline? To say the 717s are a disappointment in this area is an understatement. Be nice to see them at least as reliable as what they replaced. Failed 717s have cause a lot of disruption this week.

Another 'Shortage of train crew' afternoon.

16:25 from H N
16:20 from Moorgate
And it's not yet the weekend.

Fatality at Hitchin earlier? Many drivers need to book on there?

Just a slight correction, the Fatality was at Ashwell & Morden. I believe the line was closed for a while causing service disruption with units & drivers being out of place.
Thoughts are with my colleague and the emergency services whom attended the incident.

Thank you for the info.
Completely with you regarding colleagues.
It's a shame the service info I saw had such a bland explanation, whilst the the facts were correct a slightly better explanation would have been better received on a Friday.

New stopboards still under bags at Bowes Park

That’ll be the case until balizes are installed, I was told a date that these would be installed but that date has since slipped & another one has yet to be mentioned, this is the same for the stations that have SDO5 operation.

I don’t see the 717’s as unreliable as the 313’s at this stage, one sat down at Essex Road with a red fault before proceeding to Finsbury Park and detraining, another sat down at Drayton Park. The reliability is on the same par as when the 387’s entered service in my experience, the number of camera faults are minimal.
I had a soft spot for the 313’s, it’s a shame major maintenance/overhaul was not specified for by the DFT in line of the contract.
The 717’s are an interesting unit to drive, there are a few things i’d change if i specified the fit out, but in essence just a 6 car RLU 700 with no toilet and a nose end door which provides a different driving cab position

For me the service has defintley improved since all the 717s came into service. My last delay repay claim was on the 21 September 2019.

GN Metro is currently on 92% PPM for today.

I was wrong. A new notice out says no 717s allowed in passenger service into platform 2 in down direction at gordon hill. So don't think the restriction was ever removed.

Another good day for the Moorgate line. 97% PPM. Even on a Sunday!

Really?
There were a good few cancellations and short runs. Including the penultimate run to Royston.

The 97% was for the inners, so wouldn't include services to Royston.

Seems we had another Saturday evening without loads of cancellations too. Hopefully the rostering will be settling down after an intense training period.

I can't see any of that on Sunday, including the Royston service, though I can on Saturday.
So sorry - yes the Royston was Saturday night after midnight (Sunday) which serves Hertford loop.
On Sunday 09:18 from WH didn't run and the announcement said next would be 10:35 - so not good Sunday am.

The class 717s are currently on 98% PPM today. The Moorgate line has become on the the best performing lines on GTR. It used to allways be near the bottom!

You may hate the seats, but the Moorgate line is really starting to achive some very good performance stats.

remember the 313s had minimal maintenance and the poor performance on the route was also down to driver shortages. I have not seen any evidence yet that the 717s are more reliable then a well maintained 313s.

hopefully I will eat my words during the leaf fall season as that never went well with the 313s.

I spent a few hours this afternoon watching the 717s and saw 18 of them in service with no's 7, 8, 12 and 13 visible on Hornsey. The units not seen were 2, 20 and 24. As stated above service was very good.

We are all into the leaf fall season. Not the worst of it yet, but the WSP on the 700s has been working overtime the last couple of weeks. Autumn was just irrelevant to them, and I expect the same from the 717s.

Look at the arrival times of the 717s at WGC. Without 313s in the way, the 717s run a strong risk of leaving stations early! I am sure that this has resulted in a lot fewer missed paths and impacts on other services using the slows.

Don’t worry. The 700s will screw the job up southbound with the x22 and x52 always holding up the x24 and x54 services.
