Well, that was written in 2002 before the simplification of fares, oh wait ....

But how dull life would be if buying a ticket involved nothing more than going to the station five minutes before departure, telling the clerk where you wanted to go, whether you wanted to go first class or second class, and handing over the money in return for said ticket. Where's the challenge in that?
