So who decided which order the sets would leave? If GWR had any say in the matter, I would have thought it would have made sense for them to release stock before it was due for an overhaul, since it would save GWR the cost of overhauling it. When the lease is over the cost of overhauling becomes the ROSCOs/ScotRail's responsibility.
Ultimately it is down to the owners. Angel are not bothered what GWR spend or don't - they are concerned that GWR are compliant with the terms of the lease (and by implication, the VMI).

Ah; it makes sense if it was Angel who decided the hand-back order. Where the TOCs are paying for repaints/overhauls the ROSCO doesn't care if the train is repainted twice in quick succession. Thanks for the reply.

Spotted a 150 in Nothern livery at Bristol TM today. I know GWR are cascading some stock to Nothern, but I didn't know of any transfers the other way around? Apologies if already covered!

It was transferred to GWR about 3 months ago. There have been plenty of posts about it on the Forum

Time for a Turbo Merry-go-round update:

165130 went to Long Marston yesterday.
165121 & 165135 have returned to Reading from LM

165136 (last in dynamic lines livery) should depart RG for Wolverton today.
165137 should come back to RG from Wolverton today.

165137 is expected to go to LM on Monday.

Well, that’s the plan anyway!

Once 165136 is in works at Wolverton that will be all the Turbos in GWR Green livery.

Thank you for this update. Have there been any changes with the 166 fleet at Reading? A while ago it was mentioned that 166211 at Reading would return to Bristol and be exchanged for 165131 but as of a couple of days ago 166211 was still working off Reading, so presumably the four 166s at Reading remain 201,211,217,221?

Well, technically, the 166s are "Turbo Express" units... ;)
Which actually begs the question: after the 165s are all repainted, will the remaining 8 166s (201-203, 207, 209, 211, 215 & 221) follow?
But commonly referred to as Turbos none the less. It will be nice to seem some TLC carries out on the insides of these too. Some of the carpets are just grim.

Also, will the 150/2s which were repainted FGW Blue prior to being repainted GWR green be repainted or vinyled once the 158s have been done?

No, the class 166 and 165 interiors were denied interior refurbishment by the DfT. Only one set, 166205 is internally and externally refurbished as part of the rebrand showcase.

Sorry, but you are mixing up quite different things. 166205 got a coat of green paint and new seat covers for the GWR brand launch event, that's all.

That was nothing like what GWR might want to do by way of a proper update for the interiors of 166s in particular, such as fitting mainly 2+2 seats, to make them better suited to Cardiff-Portsmouth duties.

The DfT has been busy kicking the can down the road for some time over permitting interior alterations, because of the supposed 'loss' of seating, but I expect GWR will try again in the talks over what will be included in a further direct award from 2020.

DfT may still dig its heels in, on the basis that when it next has a GW franchise contest - whenever that might actually happen... - bidders will no doubt offer lots of shiny new trains anyway, thus dealing with the issue without spending anything on 166s in the meantime.

My mistake.

Happy to see 158959 going in next, that unit really looks like it has seen better days.

I was on a Reading based 165 from Banbury last week that was fitted with air cooling and plug sockets. Was very pleasant indeed!

Hardly any do, I've been on 166216 today and that didn't, neither did 166207 the other day when I went to Weymouth.

In that case it must be the Reading ones with just a smattering of the SPM based ones. We had a rolling Mod program with sets stopped for a few days whilst contractors fitted the sockets.

The 150/0s lack them, but all the refurbed 150/2s have got them. Think the 158s do too.
Not sure if the remaining unrefurbed 150/2s have them, but the 150/1s (125/126) certainly don't.
Most the 150/2s should. 150001/002, 150125/126 and 150202/207/216 don't
