As a sample question from a Safety critical SJT I found online, what would people prioritize in order 1 to 4? I would go 1, 4, 2, 3...…. number seems to be the safest option to get everybody off quickly, what do people think?

You are driving as a train driver. You stop at a station and a customer comes running up to your cab and tells you that the back engine of the train is on fire. The engine you have been driving is prone to fires and recently another engine caught fire causing extensive damage to the train and the track with injuries to customers who were travelling on the train. What do you do?

    1. Make a PA announcement to the customers telling them to leave the train and station immediately, you then call the emergency services.

    2. You call the emergency services and then make a PA announcement telling customers to leave the train and station immediately.

    3. You go to the back engine to check out if it is on fire and if it is then you go back to the front cab and you make a PA announcement to customers telling them to leave the train and station immediately.

    4. You ask a station assistant on the station to go through the train and evacuate customers from the train and station whilst you call emergency services

The answer is whatever YOU would honestly do in that situation.

Did anyone notice the closing date for applications is December 2019? Will it really be open that long? I want as least competition as possible ;)

I did notice that, but I should imagine it’s left open until they have what they deem enough applicants.

Does getting an invitation to do the Situational judgement test mean you have passed the application sift?

Not as far as I am aware, the SJT has been issued to me & my application says 'Still Under Consideration'

I should imagine that, everyone that applied will have to do the assessment. Upon success, then have their application looked at, as to wether to continue with said application. I suppose it’s easier to whittle through the applicants via a short assessment, than it is to go through thousands of applications.

That’s the thing with these sorts of SJTs; there tends not to be even one silly answer and all the options are feasible. As Gooner said, it’s all about what you would do in that situation, but naturally there is a way in which the ideal applicant would answer. I guess that’s the whole idea of the assessment, and the clue is in the name.

Looking at the way you selected your priorities and bearing in mind what I said about no silly answers; Would I evacuate the train, call the emergency services and possibly cause mass-panic before even knowing for sure that the back of the train is on fire? Maybe/probably not, no. But is that what they want to hear? Maybe. Likewise, would I walk all the way to the back of the train myself to check? Probably not.

I truely hate these tests as I’ve done my fair share haha (but seem to pass them).

I have to agree with you mate, I must admit I did think they same. You have to constantly think about what the company are looking for in an individual. Would the correct answer be the same for a different TOC???

Anyone heard anything yet? Advert has been up longer than most so I wonder if they are keen to fill roles in the more less populated areas and waiting? I should imagine Norwich followed by Cambridge would have the fewest applicants.

I went the opposite on that, I would evaq train straight away as question stated you know these trains have a history of fires, all other answers put customer in danger for longer and safety is paramount, if the customer is lying about fire..... your not to know...... the train and customers are your responsibility, who's knows what they are looking for you to answer, that's just what I would do.

As I said, there’s no silly answers usually, and they do like to word things strangely and stick the odd red herring in there. In reality I’d probably step if if the cab and look for smoke before making an informed decision, but that wasn’t an option

Oh ok thanks mate. I assumed it might be a case of people hearing that they have passed SJT fairly soon then placed in a pool. Then the longer wait from there

I am just going on the basis that I also applied for WMT and still not heard anything back from the SJT from that either and that has probably been about 5-6 weeks ago.

    Hi all...

I am also new to all of this and just applied for the trainee driver job at Bishops yesterday. Was asked to do the SJT today, and I just completed it tonight.

All seemed okay apart from one question which I had to think twice about, but we'll soon see I guess! Good luck all!

I just checked the application score and got an 11. Everyone else seems to be hitting 12's, so thinking I'm fallen at the first hurdle. :(

From doing the SJT after the application, does anyone know how long it takes to get the results? I applied for MTR Crossrail about a year ago, the SJT I did online for them was a lot harder than the GA test & the results took about a week.
