Repeat performance this afternoon. 143621 has been to Penzance to drag 150249 back. I don't know of the problem today but on Monday 150239 had a defective warning horn at the Plymouth end.
249 failed at Falmouth Town yesterday when on the last service of the day, the 23:18 service to Truro, didn't go past Penryn until around 10 to 2 in the morning, couldn't of been crippling unless another 150 hauled it to Penzance, couldn't make out if it was or not when it passed my bedroom window

Don't think 143s are cleared for any of the Cornish branches, for it to go and pick 249 up at Falmouth Town

Defective speedometer whilst on the Newquay branch last weekend. Hauled to Penzance on Sunday evening by another 150/2 then collected by the 143.

In any case. only Exeter Drivers in the SW know 143s but not Falmouth. If it had been left there to wait for it, the Branch would have been blocked.

Indeed it would of, push come to shove they could of used a Pilot Driver, 143s are certainly proving their worth at the moment tho, although Exeter will still have plenty of rescue units in the form of 150/2s and 158s, once the 143s eventually bow out

Do you know what actually happened to 150249 ? It seemed to have failed last thing at night. Would there have been a 143 and driver available at Exeter at that time to go to Falmouth at the snap of the fingers. The unit arrived back at Penzance in the early hours having been cancelled throughout from Falmouth. More details required of the circumstances before being able to really fully discuss.

Haven't seen what the failure on 249 was, given that it was there for nearly 2 hours it must of be pretty bad, the last 150 failure was a faulty speedo on the Newquay branch, with 150s it could be anything, it it failed at Penryn it could of stayed till collection

With furlough still running, there could be less drivers available but looks like Long Rock did if they had to get another unit to pick 249 up

I believe it was a faulty horn one end. Just to clarify, to date, no drivers furloughed so crewing trains not a major issue at present. Subject to change of course as the timetable ramps up again....

Ah right, thanks for the info, just the foot crossing by Penmere that got in the way then and proved a problem

I have seen various rumours online that the 143s are to be extended for an additional 3 months into 2021 now but on the Government's website, it still has them down as their derogation ending at the end of 2020 so I would assume that these are just rumours at present unless anyone else knows anything different??

1. Does anyone know why 143618 is permanently stabled at the buffers at the end off the siding at Exeter TMD. Which can clearly be seen at the road side after crossing the level crossing. Has 143618 been stored or is anything wrong with it ?.
2. Also today saw 143603 going to Plymouth laira ecs through newton abbot around 0955 am approx is it for repair or has it been stored ?? Any updates on 143603 and 143618 would be great.

143s quite often go to Laira for tyre turning and 618 is waiting parts according to another Forum, perhaps aggravated by the Pacer supply chain being run down in anicipation of them finishing last year...

Not nessacarily getting new wheelsets, may just have it's current ones turned (fixed) down there if they can be, they will do that as much as possible before needing new ones...

143603 is in Laira for tyre turning from what I have heard as it did have some nasty flats when it went down and 143618 like said above is waiting for some parts hence why it hasn't been used for a few months but no idea on what parts it is waiting for...

143603 should go back to Exeter from Laira at some point this week.
618 still waiting parts.

On the subject of 143s, should be a set on Barney branch today.

I had a ride up to Barnstaple on 143612 today, then 158798 on the way back down. Also saw the Turbo. Nice to see 4 different unit classes operating on the line, not used to seeing a 166 out of the window from a 143 :)
Exmouth - Paignton was a mix of doubled up 150s and 143 + 150 combos as usual.

Will miss GWR’s 143s when they go. They do give a dreadful ride quality up to Barnstaple though.

That's part of the fun! I haven't had one up there since Autumn last year so was nice to go for a jolly.

More and more CWR there every year!

I had a ride up to Barnstaple on 612 myself! It’s fun actually having the 143 bouncing it’s way along the Tarka Line! Really gonna miss them when they go in December.
