Was this 166201 returning home to Bristol this morning?

Thank you to anyone that can confirm

Indeed it was, so the Thames Turbo fleet is now:-

165101-127 (excl 115)

and the Avon Turbo fleet is now:-

165128-137
166201-221

This is expected to be the settled state until the 769s enter service in the Thames Valley

166205 working 2E34 to Exeter at 19.50. There seem to be more 166s about down here.
Interesting Voyager in platform 1 1V49/1M80 which will do it's daily shunt to platform 2 at 20.05 to head off to Birmingham at 20.20.

On the Exmouth-Exeter route, are the 2x 166s always used for the same services? If so, what are the diagrams for these?

If you refer to Post #1067 it will explain the workings which are exclusively between Exmouth and Paignton all day. The 2 start off with these:-

166213 is working 0608 Exeter St D-Exmouth.
166210 is working 0525 Bristol TM-Exmouth.

Yesterday both Exmouth line units (166201/9) were in the old FGW blue livery. I find this photographs better than the dark green.

Seems odd that 2T22 doesn't return with 2F26, and 2T21 with 2F25. As it is, there is a short turnround time at Paignton of nine minutes (1543 to 1552).

This is very useful. Does it work for Saturday even though the timings are different as I want to get a turbo on Saturday from Paignton.

I am not 100% sure of the booked diagrams for the weekends as over the past few weekends it has varied a little.

i know they often stick a 3 car 158 on on Saturday and I have seen a 158 2 car attached to a 2 car 150. A driver told me the new depot is great but are still not servicing 158s or 166s.

It facilitates the working at Paignton. Trains can only run northwards from Platform 2 so with two there at the same time it seems sense to keep the first arrival in Platform 1 and stay there until the other has run in and out of Platform 2 before shunting ahead and back into Platform 2. Nine minutes is a very good allowance for turning back when many of them at numerous locations can be 3 minutes and is not a short time by any means.

166209 working Paignton today. They do shunt often from platform 1 usually as a train leaves platform 2 so the crossing closure is less as both trains move north. The crossing usually stays down until the shunt is complete. Cross country voyager does the same in the evening; see post 1083.

With the Metro being every 30 minutes during peak times plus a few IETs etc.the crossing gates are down approx. 20% of the time.
Quite a chunk for a main thoroughfare to the seafront and local traders.

This post is only a matter of interest re the crossing. Probably get told off by the moderators.
The 2015 Paignton masterplan envisages an open crossing a la continent and only pedestrian traffic. None of the plan has come to pass and cold feet has about the crossing has set in being quietly forgotten in current thinking. I believe Red Cow Crossing Exeter (the only six track level crossing in the country) allow pedestrians to cross under supervision when the gates are down.Paignton Town Square 2015 adopted masterplan.JPG

Helpston, which is just north of Peterborough has 6 tracks on the level crossing and is also the widest crossing in the country.

14/06/21: 166204 is on one of the Barnstaple diagrams currently, started with 2B72.

17/06/21: Yesterday and today, three out of the seven Exmouth to Paignton diagrams have been worked by 166s, from what I know only two are booked for turbos normally.

My thread about an odd turbo working on the NDL has been summarily locked immediately after I posted it, with no explanation. Therefore I ask the question here (I started a new thread because it was an oddity). Does anyone know what this is? 769 tests have been shown on RTT as diesel locos rather than Turbos, and have not shown all the weird losing and gaining of coaches en route.

Still a 769 isn't it? Just because the path has been entered as a Turbo doesn't mean it is one - indeed one of the tests they would want to carry out with a 769 is to see how close it can get to Turbo timings.

The stuff about losing and gaining coaches must just be an error in how the data has been put into the systems.

I’m booked onto the 14:55 Weymouth to Gloucester on Thursday 24/06. Would this be operated by a Turbo or is booked a 158/9 please?

A 166 is running the training train, saw it on Dawlish cams as 5Z46 Paignton to Exeter. goes back to Paignton as 5Z47 then to Crediton 5Z48.

I might pop down to make sure it was a 166 and not a rare 3 car 165. It was in first Great western colours.
