The 20:00 and 20:15 being on a weekday I mean !
When will, these new super fast trains be a fast as the hst were 40 years ago? Bristol Parkway in 63 mins. London to Swindon in 40 mins. A massive amount of money has been spent of new trains and so called route improvements and yet trains 40 years ago were faster.
I have the BR timetables from way back and they make illuminating reading. The current trains have been deliberately slowed and have so much running time.
Of course when a few minutes are shaved off by the new trains they will be heralded as being faster.
Not everyone has a short memory or is so easily conned.
Our new high speed trains are much slower than trains 40 years ago. They have more seats crammed into each coach with less leg room. They have under floor engines which will beintolerably load and intrusive on the banks of Devon and Cornwall.
How are these new trains an improvement?
They look like standard modern design cattle trains that are amongst the most uncomfortable in the world.
Progress? Don't be daft.
I very much agree, it will be a sad day indeed when the last GWR and VTEC HST is removed from service.
The timetable padding is a joke, fair enough you have more trains now but as the IEPs are going to "cut" journey times surely that isn't simply down to superior acceleration on electric power, can't save time if you only catch every else up really.
Definitely not progress I'm my book, but they are shiny, new, squeeze in more passengers and can run on electric and so are preferable to perfectly good InterCity trains whose only major fault arguably is their age.
1945 PAD SWA 5 car only last night. 2045 PAD SWA 10 car with 5 locked out last night.
This morning 0745, 0815 and 0900 BRI PAD all late off depot, some ran retimed and on different headcode but all 3 were 5 car only.
Ugh yes thats a bit sharp practice.
1A07 0745 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington CANCELLED
1Z07 0835 Bristol Temple Meads to Loondon Paddington VSTP
1A08 0815 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington CANCELLED
1Z08 0900 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington VSTP
That said both were due to a points failure rather than stock issues per se so its not clear that Hitachi or GWR had any blame in this mess.
I smell PPM books being cooked.
GWR Twitter has said due to Engineering Work overrun
I didn't know that.Has no impact on PPM. Cancellations equal automatic failure. VSTP trains do not count towards PPM - running a 1Zxx doesn’t earn you an extra pass to boost statistics.
5A10 came off Stoke Gifford earlier and worked 1Z08 if I recall correctly.Points failure in Stoke Gifford/Filton area caused congestion at Bristol Parkway; sets couldn’t get off Stoke Gifford blah blah...
The 1Zxx VSTP with the WTT train cancelled is an NR performance fiddle, that I won’t comment further on! The units that were meant to be 1A07 worked 1Z07; and the units that were meant to be 1A08 worked 1Z08...
Any chance someone could update the Frequently Requested Diagrams thread with the up to date Class 800 diagrams please? As the current diagrams on there state "Valid Until Sunday 25th March". And it's confusing trying to find the up to date diagrams in this thread with the multitude of postings in here.

That one's been around for a couple of weeks. I haven't seen 800001 to 800004, 800007, 019 or 036 in service.800 035 seen in passenger service today in Newport.

I saw a photo in a rail magazine, probably the latest Rail, of 800001 having its GWR livery applied, so I expect it will soon enter normal service. However if there are 30 sets for 29 diagrams, it's hardly surprising there are currently short formations.800 001 to 004 are used by GWR for test train and driver training. GWR, on Journey Check, have come up with a new "cut and paste" to explain IETs running with 5 instead of 10 (3 circuits today). "Due to disruption yesterday, some trains finished up at the wrong Depot last night".
