I know GWR's HSTs have DAS (Driver Advisory System), which tells the driver how fast they need to travel at and when to shut off power and to maintain schedules. If the HSTGTis still have this operational, I imagine on shorter runs they won't reach 100mph even if the distance was otherwise sufficient.

On the Cardiff-Bristol-Taunton route there's unlikely to be (many) 100+ plus sections so even if these HST's were allowed to go to 125mph with 4 coaches the line speed won't allow, it's even worse past Exeter, barring a short 100mph section near Exminster pretty much nothing above 75/80mph. It's only the route east of Bristol and sections of the Berks and Hants which have higher speed sections.

There is a 110mph section on Bristol-Taunton, but Bristol-Taunton is otherwise 90-100 and north of Bristol is 75-90 to Newport and 75-95 there to Cardiff.

I believe the HSTGTi are limited to 100mph anyway and are currently timed for 90mph I think on Taunton-Bristol-Cardiff and presumably 75 on Exeter-Penzance.

Have any of the refurbished 255's contain a disabled toilet and wheelchair space area yet.

Yes, they have had them for quite a while. GW01 was introduced originally without as the Modified Coach wasn't ready, when it was available for use it was inserted into the set. I was on GW01 and GW04 yesterday and they were definitely in the sets.

Not sure which thread this is relevant to so: Just gone past a HST with two GWR Powercars and 5 or 6 XC Mk3s? Looks like it’s come from Doncaster. 43040 on the rear

    Edit: It’s Sliding Door XC01 with 43154 and 43153.

When is 43097+43122 coming back down?

There is a lot of HST's up at Doncaster Wabtec at the moment.

Ok, ok I forgot. But it wasn't me who said that they had gone down. I presume from what was mentioned on post #1295 it was just the power cars.

Does anyone know if more Taunton-Cardiff diagrams have gone over to HSTs?

Does anyone know how many sliding door sets are running now? And when more are due?

Four have been received. Don't know how they're split between training and running though.

Apparently most of the 11 to be fitted with sliding doors are already at Wabtec so hopefully more be coming back down soon, four have been done so far but sadly as is widely known progress has been slow.

I believe it's 14 sets going to GWR now, definitely at least 12.

On my first 4 car set on 12:21 Bristol to Cardiff, what a lovely job has been done on them. The interior and seats are so much better than the 800 I just got off. Externally they look very smart.

I'm guessing your talking about one of the green sets that have just been refurbished. And not just a manky old slam door set.

Yes green sliding door. The seats are covered in the same new fabric as the refitted 800s but with a leather headrest framed in green fabric, very nice. One of the power cars was 43005. Strange diagram though, stopping at filton abbey wood, patchway, stj, Newport and Cardiff. No chance to get up any speed, I assumed it was running under caution but it arrived more or less on time.

I've only been on 2 - if not the same HST twice - with the refurbished GWR HST interior.

However, I can't wait to board 1 or 2 refurbished Castle sets. I jolly hope they'll keep these until the HST's die - the Priority seats in Coach C are so spacious (seats 72 and 69 in the 8-coach sets I'm on about). Plus I'm keen to sit in seat 73 in Coach A which is a single seat. That plus like 28 table seats is a huge improvement over 150's and Turbos!

Assuming coaches A, B, C and D in the Castle HST's retain the same seating plan, that's like 311 seats I've counted in my Guide to Services book - more than the 5-coach 180's they had!

Another reason they should keep the Castle sets is the 158's, that were meant to be used instead, can increase capacity elsewhere within GWR. Even the 158's despite having less (but more table) seats are a big improvement over 150's!

Class 150's I won't argue are a train I can personally rely on.
