The problem with the Westbury line is that Avoncliff and Dillon Marsh cannot be served until Turbos have some form of local door control which is February at the earliest. Pretty much every non-Portsmouth service to/from Westbury calls at Avoncliff and most of the Westbury stoppers run to/from the Gloucester line, so very little on either route until February. Similarly Melksham is overlength any Turbo units so cannot be served until Feb.

I'm sure GWR wouldn't have enough Turbos to double up which would mean replacing 4 cars with 6 and wasting 2. There are also platform lengths to consider which is why the Cardiff to Portsmouths will convey 5 Cars (166+165). I could be wrong but I think it is a reasonable assumption. Passengers may be sold down the river again, but time will tell.

I think you'll find there will be some doubled-up sets appearing on local services by May. Certain workings split at Westbury and continue separately and these can't be resourced by the same single Turbo. Obviously the GWR planners are aware that a 3-car 166 has nearly the same capacity as a 4-car 150 but there are physically more vehicles in the West fleet by then, so they will be deployed where growth in demand is anticipated. With ASDO it becomes a whole different ball game. You'll have 6-car trains to Weymouth in the summer as well, rather a lot more capacity compared to the 3/4 car 150s provided at best before now.

Except 2K00 0514 Bristol TM to Severn Beach and 2K47 2137 Bristol TM to Avonmouth for the time being
Will 2K00 which returns as 2K01 be a Turbo and by looking at RTT it turns into the 2Y04 to Weston-Super-Mare??

166212 worked a peak service from Bristol-Swindon this morning then spent the rest of the day on the Swindon-Cheltenham shuttles, including 1754 Swindon-Cheltenham which will be a considerable relief to long suffering commuters on the Stroud Valley. Not sure it was diagrammed though.

Will Turbos work any further west than Taunton? Services round Exeter are busy but Turbos may be out of gauge on former LSWR lines like Exmouth and Barnstaple (although the Broad Gauge did go as far as Crediton!). Presumably they are cleared for ex-Midland lines to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Worcester.

Running to Gloucester now. No plans for West of Taunton for the time being at least. Original plans included clearance for lines around Exeter and on to Plymouth but that was before Oxford electrification was mothballed with now less Turbos heading West

I thought the mini HST’s were going to operate the Cardiff to Taunton /south-west services with the Turbos doing the other routes through Bristol such as Malvern> Weymouth & Portsmouth> Cardiff?

If the Network Rail Enhancement Delivery programme is anything to go by, there have been no changes to the gauging clearance programme linked to the arrival of the Turbos - it should all be completed as far as Plymouth by the end of next year. Plymouth to Penzance and the Gunnislake branch, plus St Erth to St Ives, are potential CP6 projects according to the plan

Yes, I read that myself. Whatever happens with eventual Turbo West fleet numbers, IMHO it makes sense to clear as many routes as possible

Look like 166208 will be working to Worcester Shrub Hill tonight from Bristol TM. Possibly the first Turbo of the fleet to call at Ashchurch for Tewkesbury too. Unsure if this is a booked diagram as of yet.

2E29 2041 Bristol Temple Meads - Worcester Shrub Hill
2G99 2225 Worcester Shrub Hill - Gloucester

I still find it strange that out of all places on the GWR network, Worcester saw the biggest variety of GWR stock on a frequent basis. In fact, more or less everything apart from the 143s (but those even made it there in the past!)

Very true, seems they just send what they can there. It's because there's a direct route from London and Oxford and a direct route from Bristol and Gloucester.

Oh yes! HST, 150, 153, 158, 165, 166, 180! That's actually quite interesting to think, although of course the days of Cotswold Adelantes are well and truly over...

It has been reported that 11 short HST sets will be produced, operating Exeter/Plymouth-Penzance and Cardiff-Taunton. I don't suppose we know the timetable and diagrams at this stage and whether all of the above services would be HSTs. It may be a mixture of Turbos and HSTs on Taunton-Cardiff and HSTs and 158s at the Penzance end. Will have to wait and see... still waiting for the 1st HST set to emerge from works

I believe the plans for the 158's in the future are unconfirmed as they keep changing. More Turbos will be doing Weymouth runs, Gloucester runs and Portsmouth runs too, so I imagine short formed HSTs will cover majority of diagrams on the Cardiff - Taunton service.

I wouldn't bother. They are just running in lieu of the Cardiff Portsmouths due to Engineering work between Bristol TM and Bath.
Yeah I've just discovered this. The same diagram operates next Sunday too, so could well be operated by a Turbo again. Will take it off next week after Sunday.
