A quick shoutout for those who are working today on this day that often gets overlooked by the government.
Although there normally is a holiday on the first Monday in May, this is more to do with the maypole dancing rather than the workers.
Alongside the UK, Spain, Netherlands, and Denmark have no commemorations by the government for this day - a strange coincidence that the elected representatives have to pledge allegiance to the monarchy rather than their constituents?
With the present coronavirus outbreak and with the hard work of those providing essential services, is now the time for the UK to make this day a proper holiday instead of the present first Monday in May?
