Tyne Valley for BVE will include a non-stop diverted HST run. Sadly, I haven't kept a copy of the GNER timetable for last Autumn's diversions. Can anyone help me with a copy? Or, do you know the Saturday departure times from Carlilse / arrivals in Newcastle that they ran to?

Cannot confirm exact times yet (believe it or not I was using the GNER timetable as a bookmark and have lost it somewhere) but IIRC departures from Newcastle where approx xx:30 during the morning then shifted about half an hour around 13:00 (certainly the 11:30 followed the 11:24 Northern serevice) and the late afternoon depatures from Carlisle where around the xx:10 mark(can remember catching one off the Whitehaven train before the 18:18 Northern Newcastle departure). I think the journey time was about 1h 20m if not held up. Hope this helps if no decent info comes.

ps Have a copy of the Northern June- December 2005 timetable if that is any use.

Thank you for your reply, beermaddavep.... very useful! On a Saturday in October last year, I caught one out of Carlilse at about 0815, and recall being in Newcastle by around 0930... enough time to cycle back to Dunston to be that day's Passenger Who Boarded at Dunston, whereupon I was counted by a survey man - probably the most Statistically Significant I've ever been!

If anyone can confirm timetabled times ex Carlisle / arr NCL, I'd be grateful.

It's brilliant to hear that they happened to be doing a surevey the day that someone used the train.

As to your question, I think I may have. I'll look.

Rummaging through some bags from my old house have unearthed the GNER timetable for weekends 11 sep to 11 dec 2004.

Saturday departures 11/9 to 30/10

Carlisle depart
07:58,08:56,10:01,10:58,12:01,12:59,13:59,15:01,16:01,17:01,18:01,19:00.

arrival at Newcastle 09:30 then xx:30 apart from 11:31,15:32 and 18:33.

Newcastle depart
08:18,09:15,10:28,11:18,12:18,13:18,14:18,15:18,16:18,17:16,18:18,19:24

arriving Carlisle 09:40,10:29,12:01,12:38,13:41,14:33,15:43,16:37,17:34,18:51,19:40 and 20:52

Looking at the above the best journey time was 1h14m to 1h33m depending on the trains in front, allowing plenty of time for early arrival for the eastbound journeys.

If you need any more times ask away.

Thanks very much for that, beermaddavep. Very useful....

The times you quoted seemed to refer to 2004?

My recollection of October 2005 is using the 0649 service ex Wylam to Carlisle, scheduled to arrive 0807, arriving 0815.... than a mad dash across the bridge at Carlisle to board an 0820 GNER departure for Newcastle, arriving NCL at about 0930 (ahead of timetabled time, as I recall...)
