Have any of the coaches been sold or advertised for sale privately? In particular the Buffet cars...they would surely make a great cafe for someone, somewhere - or are there rules and regs about this sort of thing? Apart from the obvious cost in transport and getting a suitable base for them to sit on, they are ready fitted with a kitchen!

They are / have been for sale, but not advertised by either Porterbrook or Angel. So you'd have to make contact with them directly if interested.

42205 and 42210 have been disposed of to the Scottish Fire Service, the former to the training site at Cambuslang, the latter to the Aberdeen site.

Apparently 41183, which was recently sent to CF Booth, has been sold on to LSL and moved to Crewe.

Apparently 42076 and 42572 have been rejected from the ScotRail rebuild programme, and sent to CF Booth for scrap.

No future for the former Volo TV Demonstrator then. Just as well ScotRail took those spares out of Ely a short while ago then. I wonder if there will be a reprise for any of the former "classic" vehicles still currently in store in Dundee then?

I think I might have spotted a possible omission in the list of disposals – possibly.

I’ve been a regular user of the Midland Main Line for nearly 30 years and I have tried wherever possible to make my journey by a HST – Britain’s finest train!

So I have been following the many changes in HST rolling stock over the months in 2020.

It was back in March this year that 2 Neville Hill ‘classic’ Sets were withdrawn – NL06 & NL07.

These eventually found their way to the scrapyards which were Sims, Newport and Booths.

Looking through the list to see which trailers had ended up in which scrapyard, I had spotted 2 trailers that had not been accounted for.

However, one trailer has since been resolved.

The 2 missing trailers were from Set NL07 and they were TGS 44044 and TS 42339.

However, a search on this site revealed that 44044 was enjoying the Warwickshire countryside at Long Marston having been moved there for storage.

I did actually travel in this very vehicle on 28/01/2020 on 1B53 1445 Nottingham – St. Pancras from East Midlands Parkway to Leicester.

Little did I know that this trailer only had a few more weeks in service.

I did look around the inside of the vehicle while I was travelling and I thought that despite it being 40 years old, it was still in excellent condition and certainly didn’t give any clue that it had given 4 decades of service.

So a credit to Neville Hill maintenance and cleaning staff!

The other ‘missing’ trailer is 42339 and a search on this site has not thrown up any results.

What did happen to 42339?

Did it make the journey to the scrapyard (Sims?) and was it cut up there or has it been moved somewhere for storage like 44044?

Hopefully someone will have the answer.

I have 42339 as having gone to Sims at Newport on 9th April; it would likely have been demolished within days.

BRLG has the formation as: 47815 + 6330 / 44016 / 42071 / 42081 / 42074 / 44002 / 42048 / 42066 / 42050 / 6338.
I know you're only passing on info from elsewhere but 42081 is listed as scrapped at Newport on the list on page one of this thread.

Out of interest, apart from the royal train carriages, are any of the prototype HST carriages still in existence? I believe at least one was in a LNER rake which may now be with EMR...

I think that's an error.... do we know what date it was reported as going?

All of them apart from one buffet so far as I know. Two in the NMT, two in Royal Train. Three ex LNER stored (none went to EMR). Of the two GWR ones, one is at Doncaster (not sure what for, possibly spares), other taken to Eastleigh but so far as I know stored at the moment, not scrapped.

There's a handful still around:

Network Rail:
975814 - 41000
975984 - 40000

Porterbrook - but now in Wabtec Doncaster:
42353 (Ex FGW)

Angel - but now in Eastleigh pending it's future:
42356 - 42002 (Ex FGW)

Angel - Unsure of current locations:
42355 - 42000 (Ex LNER)
42357 - 41002 (Ex LNER)
41170 - (Ex LNER / painted in Blue Grey and stored in Ely).

Royal Train:
2903 - 11001
2904 - 12001

I have 42355 and 42357 as both at Ely, so presumably they won't be used by EMR.
