I was having a discussion with a friend earlier about which Class 43 power car would have visited the most Termini in London. In the end we couldn't come up with a specific one, but that it would likely be a FGW ex Rio Power car. This way it could have visited Paddington, St Pancras, Euston, Kings Cross, Marylebone and Waterloo. Does anyone have any information that would be useful or can you suggest a specific power car?

I would probably suggest it has to be the NMT Power Cars - Given that their previous operations would have taken them into Kings Cross and Euston on regular occasions, and since would have visited Kings Cross, St Pancras, Euston, Marylebone Paddington - and possibly Waterloo?

The various PCs with GW would have visited a similar amount of stations though - 053/056 for example would have previously been regular visitors to St Pancras with MML, Kings Cross with GNER, and Paddington / Marylebone / Waterloo with FGW.

Yes I think we would have add "in passenger service". Would 53/56 ever have visited Euston?

Having a quick check through another forum - and it is a quick check - I have come up with 43041/078/079/194-196 that have done Waterloo and Marylebone (and obviously Paddington) as FGW power cars and are likely to have the done the other termini. These were for many years East Coast machines (078/079/194-196 were also Project Rio so definitely worked into St. Pancras) so would have done King's Cross and St. Pancras. As they were all also Virgin power cars they would also have visited Euston.

So I would say those six have all visited Paddington, Marylebone, Euston, St. Pancras, King's Cross and Waterloo.

I will also throw in that a lot of the (Virgin) Cross-Country power cars would have visited Waterloo on the Eurostar link services. 43069/086/091/092/154/159/161/162 visited Marylebone and were ex-XC so potentially have visited all six as well.

Prior to 1992, the power cars were more likely to be swapped for brief periods between routes. Moreover, there must also have been a period prior to ECML electrification when there was quite a bit of mixing of MML and ECML power cars.

Of course, a few went to Liverpool Street as well but I guess that Waterloo and Marylebone beat Liverpool Street.

Answering this for the post-privatisation period is perhaps better defined.

Another interesting question is whether they have all been to Paddington or Kings Cross.

Anything allocated to Eastern Region or Scottish Region depots (Bounds Green, Neville Hill, Heaton and Craigentinny) pre-1990 can be reasonably assumed to have worked into St. Pancras as well as King's Cross.

So far I have found 185 and 12 went to Liverpool Street in 1997. iirc 73? did too at some point. It's possible that one or a few PCs have visited seven termini as 43096 has already proven that enough have visited six.
