Was having a look yesterday & day before for returns from London to Doncaster on March 17th and they kept coming up at like £25-£30, I check again like 15mins ago and I find they've gone down to £13.20 return...bargain! Slightly odd though, but I aint complaining.

Possibly the quota hasn't being selling, and Hull Trains' ticketing system has automatically cut the price in an attempt to shift tickets for the particular date in question. (The alternative being to cart around a train full of fresh air).

Likely that either someone had the last tickets at that price point in their basket when you found the more expensive fares, or that more quota has been released in the meantime by FHT.

More quotas cannot be released by train companies after reservations have opened to stimulate demand, as the ASA has previously passed judgment that this is unacceptable (train companies say that the further in advance you book, the more you'll save).

Most likely is that someone deleted items from their basket making them available once more.

Well it certainly happens - East Coast have had several £5/£10/£25 sales on dates for which quotas had previously been released.

But the sales are not for Advance tickets, but for Web Offer or Reader Offer tickets. They have slightly different t&c's, of little practicable consequence to the passenger but probably enough of a difference to keep ASA quiet.

Seems odd even with different Ts and Cs - they're still available more cheaply nearer the date of travel. None of the ones I've used have required me to purchase any additional products.

These ones certainly seem the same:

Oh yes, and what's that one company that doesn't seem to agree with that? You know, the one with their frequent "First Class Seat Sales?"

I'm not so sure. Like Deerfold says, TOC's claim that the further in advance you book, the less you'll pay. Just because a cheaper ticket is a different ticket type shouldn't, in my opinion, affect that claim.

Any sales should be run at the same time as Advance tickets are released.
