ICE Diesel Trains

G'day,

As I understand it DB have a fleet of diesel powered ICE units. In terms of sound insulation how do these compare to Voyagers and Meridians?

They are not bad, sound wise is probably similar to most underfloor DMUs as although there was some noise there were less rattles than most UK stock - however the passenger accomodation is significantly better than XC/MML Voyagers. Its not up to ICE1 standards but for a poxy little DMU its pretty good - although not the most comfortable DMU I've sampled abroad (NSB Bm92 wins that) they are certainly OK.

Howard, there's no platform actually on the ferry from what I can see, so I assume you have to get off, you cant actually ride onto the ferry on board the train, or at least if you do you cant then get off for some sea air..

You have ride by train onto the ferry, then you have to leave the train and you can board it again a few minutes before arrival, when the announcement advises you to do so.
There is not a typical platform, but I have attached a picture. I know this is no ICE on the picture, but the ferry is still the same so I dont think they have changed the procedure.

I thought quite highly of the ICE-TDs when I have used them. Yes, the underfloor engines feature in the ambient noise, but like all Velaros the quality of the passenger accommodation is definitely superior to the Voyager family...

They have the same engines as the Voyagers that we know and love, i believe, Cummins QSk19s.

unfortunately, the colour scheme of the ICE-TD does not lend itself to DMUs as the are frequently filthy
