Hi All,

Just booked my ticket to Hamburg and would like to see where the seat reservations are. This requires knowledge of the type of ICE train so are there any pointers?

Im on ICE 15 (Coach 29), ICE 559 (Coach 37) and ICE578 (Coach11).

I have another service booked ICE 1685 (Coach 28).

Any assitance would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Lee

ICE 559 and 578 can be ICE old style; ICE 15 and ICE 1685 are the newer ones.

This fantastic treasure trove of a site shows the coach numbers and formations for all DB Fernvekehr services: http://www.grahnert.de/fernbahn/reihung/reih0043.html

So from that you can get the coach layout, for the exact seat you need to guess the ICE type based on the coach layout and speed and then click "Sitzplanübersicht" to see the coach layout diagrams.

ICE15 would be a 3M because they are the only ones that can operate in Belgium.

ICE559 looks like a ICE2 which operate almost all Berlin - Köln services, ICE578 is probably an ICE1. ICE1685 looks like a double set of something, not sure exactly what but it isn't an ICE2, so either a -T or a 3.

ICE 15 is an ICE3 (class 406). I can recommend a seat reservation as this thing gets pretty crowded between Brussels and Cologne

I guess that ICE 1685 is an ICE-T (either class 411 or 415)

ICE 578 is an ICE1 (class 401)

You can find the (planned) order of the coaches at
http://www.grahnert.de/fernbahn/reihung/reih0043.html

There you will also find a link to drawings of different types of coaches (link is labled "Sitzplanübersicht") showing the seat layout.

Hope this helps. Have a nice trip
Charly

Wow. Thank you to everyone. Some interesting stuff. Looks like we'll get a right old variety; which is the point.:D

Another quick question if I may...

I have been charged Euro 218.00 for 2 Adults and 2 Children (both 11). The website suggests that Euro 109.00 is the lowest adult fare (1st Class). This implies the kids are free ?!?!?

Thoughts?

On the db site, I booked a travel ticket 2nd class without seat reservation. The next page offered me a seat reservation with a suggested seat, plus a diagram of the whole train!
