There must be five answers to that! What is the definition of "branch line"?

I'm going to choose Cheapenham , but it's not the only possible example...

Pretty sure I've checked thoroughly and it was limited to two stations, one of which was Chippenham. However the branch off from Chippenham is termed Wessex Main Line, so technically that only leaves one other...

Surely not one of the pokey little stations in Plymouth? Is Keyham the last one before the Gunnislake line runs of?

(By the way, the Melksham route - although part of the WML - should in my opinion have its own identity. Something like "The Melksham Line")

No. The 'core' Great Western Main Line is London to Bristol Temple Meads.

Well, that's what I always thought, but people on here have suggested otherwise. Tis is of course coming from somewhere on the GWML.

So, er...

How many platforms does West Ealing have?

On that definition Bath Spa is also possible - though calling the Westbury line a branch might irk some

D'oh. Looking at your location, that should have been my first guess

Bath Spa would fall foul of the same problem as Chippenham, and whereas CM may have a case, BTH does not. From here, the WML is not a branch; it is the principal trans-region route (the South-West's equivalent of TPE, just not to the same degree).

OK; let's try another...

West Coastway
2 platforms
Although serving a well-populated area, this station takes its name from one of the nearby smaller places and not the larger area, which shares part of its name with one of the few High/Low Level station pairs in Britain.

There's about 3 miles between the junction for the Westbury line and Bath Spa! You come out of West Ealing and the junction for Greenford is immediately next to the station.

And the prize for longest clue goes to Ivo...

Long clue, but no answers as yet? There are only so many stations on the coastal route between Brighton and Southampton you know...

A good idea, but the area I refer to has no station named after itself at all. Worthing has three.

Ultimately, Durrington et al only serve a fairly small area, courtesy of the high number of local stations.

I know its desperate.
On my way to Wikipedia...

You needn't bother. Swanwick is correct. The place I refer to is Locks Heath (Heath HL/LL being in Cardiff).

Sorry, forgot about that one...
I will say five through platforms. Sorry again.

I was thinking about something closer to home for me.
There is a specific reason it wouldn't be any good to me.

Wiki says rugby has 6. I think it already has MK trains.

It's in third rail land. I wasn't aware that it was such specialist knowledge!

Not sure I understand the clue - a station that doesn't currently have a service to MK but might get one?

Three Bridges?? Right number of platforms. Would be served if the current service were extended. Not that far from Oxted.

Massive hint:

southern:we will not be able to extend the off peak west london line service as far as ******** from the timetable change on 23 may 2010........we will be working with network rail to confirm completion of the work and secure a date on which we will be able to extend the service.

Yeah! Too obscure obviously.

Guidance for decoding my clue:

But this would be no good to me.

Its not just because I have no desire whatsoever to see MK. Oxted trains do not stop at South Croydon.
Much quicker to go straight to Clapham anyway...

Ok, a bit further North. I have 2 platforms on dual track line between two northern towns. I have two trains a week one in each direction both on the same day. Another mode of transport can be connected onto here also. I have bus shelters and a footbridge and my name is outdated, a bus turning circle is outside but is not used. What station am I?
