In Car Medium wave radio problems

My Vauxhall astra has a superb radio. But, last Wednesday (11th April), there was thunder and lighting in the Kirkcaldy area, where I work, and that evening, I couldn't pick up MW, but could pick up FM. On Thursday night, I drove a different route home, and was just able, at points, to pick up a medium wave station, when in view of the Craigkelly transmitter. I can still pick up FM clear as a whistle.

So, is my radio at fault, or is it the transmitter?

Could be the atmospheric conditions, like resudual electric charge from the storm.
Someone more learned than myself will be able to elaborate on this my knowledge in this field is rather limited.

The recent high pressure has not only been responsible for the cold weather but does affect AM radio transmissions adversley, the effect is known as 'inversion'.

There are no BBC AM radio stations broadcast from Craigkelley, your nearest transmitter will probably be Westerglen, and for FM will be BlackHill. I suspect that Radio Forth is transmitted on AM from Colinswell, near Craigkelly.
There could of course be a fault with the radio or its aerial.
