Just got back from Manchester to Wilmslow. Noted at Piccadilly an announcement that due to an incident at East Didsbury, no trains were running to Manchester Airport.

Platform 3 at Wilmslow was packed with people with suitcases who'd been advised to travel to Piccadilly to get to the Airport that way. A 323 ran though without stopping (the train that should have gone Crewe - Airport - Piccadilly?). Then the ATW 2-car DMU arrived and some folk with suitcases got off while the platform-full of pax crowded on! Station staff told those who'd got off (for the Airport!) to get back on! Which they just about managed to do!

Anyone know what was going on? And how those pax were supposed to get to the Airport via Piccadilly if no trains were running that service?

Oh, and the following service from Picc to Alderley was a nodding donkey! Are Northern short of 323s?

According to NRE, it's being caused by a person hit by a train at East Didsbury. Other than that, can't really help I'm afraid

Think it was the 1355 Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes which is involved, the TPE journey check website shows it additionally calling and terminating at East Didsbury at 1523 - unless this was behind the service involved.

50 year old man hit by the Cleethorpes service, treated at scene for 20 minutes but died in the ambulance en route to the hospital.

Sorry to hear - thoughts with all those involved :(

Just a thought but 1P44 to Newcastle came through Dewsbury doubled up this afternoon, which I don't think is normal, so I wonder if they strengthened some services, possibly to get stock back in the right place
