A man was arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife at their family home in Nailsea after being struck by a train at a nearby station.

Andrew Tavener was arrested by police on Monday, January 8, after being hit by a train at Nailsea and Backwell railway station around 7.30am.

Not really much information on it at this point, mostly innuendo. By the sound of it the woman was found dying in her house, and then the man got hit by a train either before or during arrest. The station was closed for most of the day it seems.

Appears man murdered his wife, went to end his own and failed, losing a hand in the process. Presumably now facing a long prison sentence in addition to life changing injuries. Not a good day out.

Has been rather overshadowed by events at Slough this morning.
