Hi,

I go across to the Isle of Wight a fair amount and always see SWT Driver's on the ferries either going to/from Fratton, and I've always wondered just how workable is it to work in Fratton and commute from the island?

Also, what is it like to work out of Fratton (I am currently eyeing up my future career prospects)? Routes / Traction?

As always, thanks in advance for any help!

SWT staff have reciprocal travel agreements with Wightlink, so there is a 75% discount on fares (not seasons, but can include three accompanying passengers), and crossing time is 22 minutes Portsmouth - Ryde, so easily commutable from the island. Night time ferries are available on the Fishbourne route.

From observation it seems pretty varied. In a triangle form bounded by Portsmouth, Poole and Waterloo along with all diversions that 444s might take, so cobham, Chertsey etc. Probably a lot more.

Traction is 444s, 450s and 158's and 159s (although there's very limited working of diesels, there's a 158 that comes off the shed about 0430 that I usually see/hear as it passes Kingston cemetery)

Thanks for all your help. Think I'll definitely be applying as soon as I can as a qualified driver (just got to wait till I've been driving 3 years). Would love to live on the IOW and work for SWT.

Thanks again.
