Is there any access via 'International Junction', or rather the points Waterloo-side, from the Main platforms so as to enable P7-8 say trains to access the Windsor lines? There is I understand a cross-over west of the flyover that could be used to access the Windsor lines but it was not clear from the Southampton train yesterday. It does appear though that the Vauxhall cross-overs are still plain track.

I was on an Up Southampton once that crossed right over to the Up Windsor and then went through Queenstown Road Battersea...then at some stage back to its sual platform. This was because of a signalling problem and would have been 1995-6.

There's access to the reversible Up Main Relief from platforms numbered above 8, which subsequently gives access to/from all four Windsor lines at International Junction. Quail shows a set of crossovers between the Main Fasts and Windsor lines around Nine Elms flyover, which would give access from platforms 5 to 7 too. If the Slow - Fast crossovers are out of use at Vauxhall though, that means that there's no access to the Windsor lines from 1 to 4.

The Slow - Fast crossovers at Vauxhall are now plain line.

So which route is the 0105 Southampton booked then if it goes from 7 to the Windsor [Main is it called?]? I assume via the UMR? Thanks for the input. Also, and please excuse my ignorance, are the Queenstown Road ladder reversible, i.e. usuable in the Down direction?

I assume it must run via the Down Main Fast then crossing to the Down Windsor just before Queenstown Road - 7's the last platform to not have direct access to the UMR. The ladder crossover is signalled for use in both directions though, as far as I can tell.

Presumably by this you mean they are not in use? Then why are they still there? And why when in around 2003 when they weren't connected were they re-connected if they are not to be used?

I looked up once the official designation of the Vauxhall cross-overs..found it on NR's engineering site somewhere but no official junction name so far as i could see. In a reply on a forum I read, which discussed the crossing-over possibilities at Clapham Yard, which are non-passenger, the Queenstown Road crossovers, and the Vauxhall corssovers, it was stated that there was only at least one ECS movement, and then subsequently it was stated that they had been 'repaired' or words to that effect and that meant temporary plain-lining. It does seem from what I saw the other day from the train that there may still be Slow-Fast or vice versa but no ladders to the Windsors now. That would appear to leave the aforementioned crossovers at International Junction, and by Nine Elms Flyover.

These are the best shots I could find of the present situation:

Quail doesn't show any crossovers between the Main and Windsor lines at Vauxhall - sorry if I've confused you there! Any reference to Windsor/Main crossovers near Vauxhall would probably have been referring to those near Nine Elms flyover.

Actually, unless there has been some confusion in another forum, there was supposedly a crossover at "Vauxhall" which is I believe what has now been confirmed as plain line...note http://dsctrains.fotopic.net/p31286209.html

where there are cross-overs which in my little knowledge are on the Main and Slow [is that what they are called?] whereas there was supposedly at one time a cross-over to connect with the Down Windsors shown. If this was the "Vauxhall" cross-overs as against what has been described as "under the flyover" ..which is not correct from what I saw as the #-over is west of the flyover..then it was reputedly only used by an ECS movement.

I seemed to have opened up a can of worms when I asked on another forum about Clapham etc., as someone chipped in about the access across Clapham Yard, as they are officially non-passenger and could never be used in the Down direction. I have no idea whether the Queenstown Road ladder is used but I have been travelling over that section for over 40 years now and we only did it once on the 0905 Southampton-Waterloo as it then was because of a signalling problem. It was however interesting to see how we got to our 'normal' platform at Waterloo and I now suspect we must have gone via the UMR if it is/was reversible. Odd site seeing a 442 going through Queenstown Road!

PS: I have now found the diagrams that had been posted some time ago and of course it's largely clear now thanks!
