1964 actually, but was still used as a postal address for several years afterwards before the full introduction of postcodes outside the original London Postal area. With these in place, the need for county names fell into disuse.

Most people STILL prefer the old county names of the home counties adjacent to London.

I would ALWAYS say I live in Essex, rather than the anonymous 'Greater London' title.:)

Home counties being Herts Beds and Bucks, which im apart of ;)

So saying that, is Hertfordshire 'Greater London'?

No, Hertfordshire is not. Saying that, parts of what used to be Herts are now Greater London.

IIRC, 'Greater London' is the terminology applied to the new outer London Boroughs created then and added to the original 32 'metroplitan' boroughs. Examples are London Boroughs of Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Enfield etc etc

Last journey on on a train. I cant remember.

The best days i spent with trains is network day i loved them think the last network day card i bought was let me see. Was it a £5 or £8

A memory of my first Network day

The Friday night before the Saturday we made our way to Bournemouth station. We caught the 00:3am to London when we got to Eastleigh, There was great excitement all down the train as a class 50 was put on the front. I still do not know why this was. We had a great day went to Cambridge to Hastings everywhere we could get to. Are those days gone forever this was 1980 something.
