Local station. Madgaon

What's in my wallet. Reams of pretty coloured paper with squiggly writing.

Likes. Railway courts at principal stations which have the power to jail fare dodgers

Missing. HSTs

Not Missing. non railway 'educated' management.

Hello all!

My name is Donnie, I work in frontline customer service for MTR Crossrail (TfL Rail), and I’m pretty new to the railway but very infatuated with the industry. I’ve done a fairly intensive amount of self-education into the running and infrastructure, developed an obsession with rolling stock and really appreciate steam locos (especially the streamliners and railcars of the 1930s!) I also love learning about the history of the history of railways and metro systems.

I’m very keen to develop within my career. I’m already an RMT Health & Safety a Representative, and have read deeply into reports published by the RSSB, RAIB and ORR (and I’m currently on the “essential” Red for Danger). Additionally I take a lot of interest in industry initiatives and developments, including proposals by the RDG and the Williams Review.

I’ve landed on this website so many times when Googling lesser-known or discussed railway topics but never thought if signing up until now. I have a lot to learn but hopefully a lot to contribute, and I look forward to getting to know people here!

I've been a member on here for about three years now, but only started posting a couple of weeks ago, so I guess it's time to introduce myself.

I'm Jonathan, I'm 26, and I live in Congleton. I've also lived in Cornwall and Gloucestershire, and spent the first nine months of my life in Birmingham. I work for a supermarket chain and am based in the petrol station, but help out in our main store when I can and also support other stores in the area if needed. My other main areas of interest are theme parks, F1, football (I'm a Manchester United fan), and the Eurovision Song Contest.

I suppose my interest in railways started back in 2000, shortly before my 7th birthday, when my family went to London for October half term and I was first introduced to the Underground. I just found it fascinating for some reason, and as I've grown, I've come to really appreciate so much of the history behind it. Favourite station on the network is probably Westminster. There's just something about descending into the depths to access the Jubilee line which I just find so awe-inspiring. As mentioned elsewhere, I successfully completed the Tube Challenge last November, but only just - I still blame the District line for breaking at THE worst possible place (Earl's Court) when we needed it to work. :P First time I ever travelled long-distance by rail was back in November 2011, and I think that may be when the rail bug got stuck onto me. I've zero desire to get rid of it.

Unsurprisingly, my closest station is Congleton, so I have to deal with the 323s whenever I want to go anywhere. To be fair, I don't think they're too bad. I do love the 390s, of course, and the one thing I love about living up north is being able to get to London from my house in about two-and-a-half hours if you include the time spent travelling to the station. When I was in Cornwall, it was probably at least double that, though at least the train passed along the Dawlish Sea Wall, which is simply stunning. I've a soft spot for the HSTs, as I spent many journeys on them going to and from London, and I quite like the 172s used on the Snow Hill Lines. Best rail journey in Britain for me has to be the West Highland Line from Glasgow Queen Street all the way out to Mallaig.

I already know a couple of people on here from a forum dedicated to theme parks, and I'm looking forward to finally posting more on here.

Hi all.

New arrival here.

Long time lurker, nevertime poster. I’ve most certainly, very definitely, never been on here before.;)

I’ll have to remain a bit of a man of mystery, I’m afraid, due to strict social media policies. I definitely don’t work on the UK railway. I work in a pie factory in Fray Bentos.

Great to meet you all!

Cheers mate.

My postings come thick and fast :D.
It’s the best way.
By the time you’ve posted fifteen times in ten minutes no-one has a clue where you’re going...
Keep it up!

Hello Everyone this is 83A on the 16:11 service......

I’ve been interested in railways and engineering for as long as I can remember. I don’t have any tribalism, steam, diesel, GWR, LNER doesn’t matter I like it all.

I was raised in the South West so grew up with Class 50s and HSTs, I now live in the East so I have whatever Thameslink and Greater Anglia have to offer.

My other passion(s) in life are cycling and motorcycles.

By day I work as an engineer in the broadcast industry, this requires a lot of travel via road, rail and air!

Pleased to meet you all, virtual pint on me.
Pete

Welcome to the forum Pete!

A pint of Tribute along with a dose of class 50 exhaust fumes would go down a treat with me thanks :D

Welcome aboard Pete.
Class 50s always gets my thumbs up climbing the bank into Exeter Central and of course,100mph between Reading and Paddington.

I'm using the name S&CLER because I live within a minute or two of Lord Street station and the Cheshire Lines pub, and also because I can claim to have travelled on the line from Sefton as a very small child; growing up in Maghull, the disused CL line used to fascinate me. Reception class at school I started in 1953 also had a great view of the Liverpool-Ormskirk-Preston line. Caught the railway bug travelling nearly every Sunday in the 1950s to St Helens Junction to see my grandad, an ex-LMS goods guard.
Lived in the Netherlands, so interested in Dutch railways. Also had 3 separate 30-day Amtrak passes and travelled coast to coast on 2 of them.
All time favourite train journey: the Fifteen Guinea Special at age 20 in 1968, which was also my first trip on the S&C and start of a lifelong love affair with the Dales. Keen rambler and have walked the whole S&C route on parallel paths, e.g. over top of Blea Moor tunnel from Ribblehead to Dent. An ambition is to keep healthy enough to go on any commemorative 60th anniversary trip at age 80 in 2028, so I can claim to be the only person to have been on both. Was in hospital at time of 40th anniversary in August 2008, with sepsis, but determined to stay alive because I had just got my national bus pass and had had only 4 months out of it.

Hello! I'm in Liverpool and i was in Southport a few weeks ago, i took the train from Central Station, it's a nice pleasant journey, especially when we emerge into the daylight from Moorfields!
I love the Dales too, i visited Howarth during a Wartime Weekend and had a picnic on the Dales, didn't want to leave!

So I’m new too :) I’m Anthony and whilst I wouldn’t class myself as an enthusiast and I most certainly do not have anywhere near the knowledge that most of you do... some childhood memories of the Watercress Line were rekindled by a trip on the Flying Scotsman last month, that and moving into my flat which overlooks the SWR line. I don’t drive so use the railway a lot... so yeah ended up here where you lot seem like a decent bunch.

So a bit about me - almost certainly on the autistic spectrum, love history and aviation... hmmm probably more but I’m terrible at introductions. So I will just say ‘hi’ instead
