The Scotrail fleet of class 158s are split between Inverness (158701 to 725) and Haymarket (158726 to 741 /782 / 786 / 789 / 867 / 868 / 869 / 870 / 871). However, there always seem to be quite a few Inverness based 158s working local services in the Edinburgh area (ie Fife Circle and Stirling / Dunblane services), and are sometimes paired with Haymarket 158s).
Do the Scotrail 158s operate as a common fleet, or do the Inverness and Haymarket units have separate diagrams ? And why are units working Edinburgh locals based at Inverness ?
