It seems it is not possible to buy cross border tickets from the North to the Republic from the Iarnród Éireann site nor from the Republic to the North on the NIR site. Is this just a currency issue or are there some restrictive agreements at work ?

You can only purchase Single/Return tickets from the North if starting in the north and same for starting in the south. It's to do with seperate TOC's I think but don't quote me.

Better booking online fares for your travels. It's half the price
