Even booking in advance 3/4/5 weeks I have struggled to get the correct price for an advance or any ticket for that matter via their app.
What do you mean by correct? Correct according to whom?

This has been a recurring theme over the past year now and if I was a customer who had no idea they could split tickets like that would essentially be overpaying by £47.5
That's the plan...

'As a guide however, the lowest Advance ticket available on the 06:21 from Alnmouth to London King’s Cross is £49.50' in 2020 from Customer Relations Manager - inflation and fare increases has seen this raise to £60~

I don't think it's fare fair to compare the average price in 2020 and say "it's not that now, so are they wrong?"

You yourself have now said fares increased have been a factor, and it wouldn't surprise me if those same advance price tiers referenced in 2020 are now closer to £60.

Single fares have been between £74 - £89 this year

Presumably that will have been because LNER are presently in the business of increasing fares. London-Edinburgh off peak has gone up about 33-50% since the fare increase trial started, so I'd expect other fares (at least those not constrained by Super Off Peak Single validity) to do the same.

That's the cheapest possible fare. Not guarantee of any availability at that price.

It seems to be the lowest possible price as well, rather than an average one.

So you think it's only retailers that don't wish to sell Hull Trains and Grand Central advances in the extended booking horizons that don't sell them?

Interesting. I had the distinct impression that the forum's site was unable to offer them, but I can't comment on that with any authority.
It is those other sites that only sell fully flexible tickets, but don't then allow reservations, that worry me more. For example, friends booking for travel with family before the main horizon being sold full fare tickets, without reservations, and believing (in their naivety) that this must be the best possible price.

The LNER practice is sharp, but is at least balanced with getting what you think you're paying for.
