It's certainly tempting, I'm thinking of requesting an A4.

I've seen Great Western cake in the past, chocolate lower half and sponge upper with a big icing shirtbutton on the top.

I've deleivered similar goods longer distances with no issues, (Other than an exploded bottle of egg yoak and a flat brie, thanks to the way they where packed)

Might need to get it in the hands of a specialist firm to do it though, I don't think small load chilled couriers that I know of cover that area.

You can get it on Langdons Chillnet possibly, maybe IceCold. But tbh the best way I can see to get something from Kent to Abderdeen is look at speaking to a company like Oliver Kay with national coverage and partnerships with H&B Foods (Who cover Kent) they'd run it up to Oliver Kay in Bolton and they then shove it on their scottish wagon.

I'm afraid you'll have to make sure you order it with a "+HS-CAKE" coupon otherwise consumption of this "premium" item is not permitted.

"Please ensure you have the correct ticket to eat this train."

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that was indeed my failed attempt at humour. Move along, nothing to see here.

If that ticket cake states that the Start Date and Valid Until are the same, does that mean that the person retiring has to go back to work the next day?

<---------hmmmm its my Birthday next week... I wonder. :D

Replace "next week" with "soon" and you have something more or less identical to something I just thought :p

Mmm... cake...

I'd have loved a ticket like that for my friendly FCC RPI.. then when he asked to see it, I'd rub it all over his face...!

Right, delivery can be anywhere, but its the cost. Cakes are usually delivered personally. Youd end up paying twice for your cake, as the delivery would cost about the same as the cake. So unless you live in Kent, its probably not worth it. May have to find someone local.

 I guess your still not on each others Christmas cards lists then! :P

Well, I haven't seen him again since the 'final straw' that apparently got him moved elsewhere. That's what I've been told by other RPIs, not FCC officially.

As he had my home address (when taking my statement), I was a little disappointed not to get a card from him I suppose. :D

Christmas, Card, List? What's one of these? Another one of those things I'll be expected to participate in when I'm working darn sarth? Or is that just where they take it further and have "Secret Santa"?

On the delivery thing, yes cakes normally are delivered by hand, and with Kent - Aberdeen being two days solid driving return and about £350 diesel for something the size of a VW Caddy + overnight I'd expect delivery costs to come in at £1k for personal delivery, offloading it onto Chillnet at Langdons, Stobart TCD or Reed Boardall (Ice Skating Polar Bears) would proberbly be just as expensive because they don't have small vehicles, if it doesn't need chilling I guess DHL could take it for about £300 but would it get there intact?

I think it would be out of your size limits, and can you imagine trying to take something 6ft across that needs to be kept upright through LU, or even on any service for that matter, you'd block the whole carriage up. (And have to pay extra for it under the NRCoC...

Is cheaper to hire a vehicle and drive it yourself.

VW Caddy for a weekend: £70+VAT (£30/day+VAT)
Fuel Kent - Aberdeen, lets say Ashford cos I'm being lazy. 1200mi round trip, ~45mpg on a Caddy (Pecimistic, you'd proberbly get closer to 60mpg), 101ltr of Diesel, £150 in fuel for the return journey.

So if you do it yourself it comes in under £250 (find me a return ticket for less than that, for the two people it wold take to carry it)

Aberdeen - London = £33.30 each
London - Ashford - London = £25.50 each
London - Aberdeen = £44.50 each
Total = £206.60

No railcards, random two dates in April.

Personally, I'd pay the extra £44 for the convenience ;)

Or phone my old boss at H&B and blag some space in one of their vehicles.

Would a big cake have to have its own seat though? ;)
