This isn't 'always' the case. A particular example is at the tip of the tongue but the name escapes me....

It doesn't breach copyright provided it's for personal use only. It's breaches copyright when edited software is released without the original authors permission.

ok thanks, cos i edited the 1995 stock into a 1996 stock for my own use (it's a bit crap but it was something to do).
