Kidderminster had an excellent building in the 1960's before BR pulled it down in the 1970's and replaced it with the bus station type building. Now I am glad to see it being replaced. I cannot see,why in the 70's so many stations were destroyed, being replaced with concrete or block shelters, now many are being rebuilt. What a waste of money it is, now were having to find more to put things back.
IIRC the original Kidderminster station building had dry rot and was deemed not worth repairing.

Sorry did not realise that, but still they could have put something better to replace it which would be better and would save rebuilding it now.

Don't forget that hardly anybody used trains in the 1970s (by today's standards). The previous building at Kidderminster was perfectly adequate at the time it was built, when there was just an hourly all-stations service to Birmingham and three or four trains a day to Worcester.

For anyone interested in new station design it is now possible to do a circuit from Birmingham Moor Street to Kidderminster to Worcestershire Parkway and thence via Bromsgrove (although apparently no trains from Parkway stop there) back to New Street Birmingham. But when, does anyone know, is the scheduled opening date for the new station at Kiddy?
