Seen article in the Daily Mail about kids on the signal gantry at Kirby Cross, a customer photoed them, they were apparently very close to the OHLE and could have been killed, do we have much of that sort of thing going on around the network?

It is in the local paper:

Part of the report......

A GANG of youths who trespassed on to a railway structure could have suffered “devastating consequences”, a transport boss has warned.

Several youngsters were caught on camera climbing on to a signal gantry by the side of the tracks at Kirby Cross train station.

The tall metal structure is usually used by Network Rail engineers who use it when carrying out maintenance under strict safety procedures.
In pictures seen by the Gazette the brazen boys appear seemingly oblivious to the dangers of the overhead wires located just behind them.

The wires carry up to 25,000 volts of electricity, which is always switched on at the station, and can latch on to people who get too close.

Not condoning the trespass, but surely the signal post (not gantry) was to the side of the track and the OHLE somewhere near the centre line, so not "very close"?

Probably the same group of people that have been threatening to stab a Conductor colleague with a screwdriver and who threw a shopping trolley in front of my train at Frinton last week on the same branch line.

I don't know the area, but it's not uncommon for the tops of signal posts to be near enough the OLE to require an isolation of the OLE to work on safely. The safe distance is 2.75m (9ft) which is a fair way.

OK fair point. It might well be less than that.

Often get kids playing on the Gantry to the South of Bradway Tunnel near Dronfield. No wires though.
