Ratty line blocked due to landslide. I spole to a family member in the area earlier and she confirmed that a huge amount of rain hit the west side of Cumbria yesterday. Some pictures here
Popular tourist attraction the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway will be out of action for several days due to a landslip caused by extreme weather.

The narrow gauge railway, known as the La’al Ratty, will not be running any trains until at least Saturday, October 9.

A spokesman said: “Our track gang are on site assessing the damage. We will announce any service updates as soon as we have them.

Oh dear! What section of the line has been affected? :?:
This is at the eastern end of Horsefalls Wood, approaching Rock Point from the Ravenglass direction (between Murthwaite Halt and Irton Road Station) - unfortunately the most inaccessible part of the line by any means other than train.

Thanks. Believe it's a 160 yd section of track that's been damaged. And as you say, a tricky part of the line to get to.La'al Ratty.jpeg

The original estimate of having it repaired and the railway reopened by Saturday 9th October has been pushed back a week to Saturday 16th October.

Not overly surprised, there did seem, from the various photos posted online, quite a lot of affected track to tidy up, and, as @robvulpes has pointed out upthread, this all on a relatively inaccessible stretch of the line.

Photos posted on their Facebook page last night show they have started relaying the track.
