Basically, there's a few lines I need to add to my map, a few places I want to revisit, but I'm not really planning a mega-bash, so I try to start reasonably early but end reasonably early

I'm undecided between Standard and First, but will probably go for First in the end. I'm trying to avoid Pacers like the plague. I would have really liked to fit in Weymouth and the Cumbrian Coast, but I couldn't really get it to work. If anyone can also recommend trains where reservations are really required.

I'd appreciate any critiques or problems with this. In particular with the Saturday, I'm looking at trying to do the Cotswold line and the Heart of Wales line but I'm not that happy with the trains in between the two.

I always go 1st - much more comfortable. Note Carlisle to Leeds might be part bus from Carlisle to Appleby. I always reserve all reservable trains as it makes claims for delay much easier as you can show you were likely to be on the train.

Thanks, I had wondered when those works were going to end. My back up plan for the Settle and Carlisle still being part bus is do the Cumbrian Coast instead.

First will depend on the size of my bonus which I get in June, if it is like last years, First won't be a problem.

Interesting journeys. As one who has just completed a lot of lines never covered before and who has also revisited lines not covered in ages I approve.

I was just wondering about the 3 journeys from Southampton to Reading. Is there a reason for doing the ride in 3 sectors when you could take the 1M42 from Southampton Central at 11:13 direct to Reading arriving at 12:05. Ok it's XC and a Voyager which maybe would put off anyone but there is first class and a trolley service which despite XC's faults is not so bad! As I said, I was just wondering.

PS hope the Settle and Carlisle has re-opened by the time you do your trip. I was buggered doing Blaenau Ffestiniog due to bus services.

there are some days you could fit a lot more in as you have early finishes. It looks an interesting itinerary

I need to sleep a certain amount and I'm hard-wired to wake up at 5am. So I set a 8pm at latest time to get dinner and the required amount of sleep.

I have nothing against XC, my other half works for them = although we do disagree on the subject of Voyagers. I think the 11:13 direct is the back up plan otherwise its just about getting a varied number of services in.

Hopefully a lovely 150/0 will roll up for you at Basingstoke ;)

A 150/0 would more than make up for Boringgrad. I actually miss the 150's a little bit, a diet of 172's and 350's can be a bit boring.

Sleep is overrated ;) It is what works for you that is important, being tight I try to squeeze every penny i can out of my rovers.
