Leeds - Harrogate bus: Can I use the £4.50 WY day ticket to get to Harrogate?

Hi folks, the question is mostly in the title, is this possible or do I but an 'extension'? I've got to go from Cookridge - Leeds - Cookridge - Leeds - Harrogate - Cookridge.

I need to return to Cookridge tomorrow and I'm wondering what ticket combo to get (it will be around 07:00 when I leave Cookridge and 21:00 when I leave Harrogate).

I'm thinking a WY bus day ticket to go between Cookridge and Leeds and get to Harrogate (plus supplement if necessary).

Then a train from Harrogate to Horsforth, followed by the 6 bus back up to Cookridge.

So essentially a WY bus day ticket and a single train ticket from Harrogate to Horsforth.

Can anyone think of a better way?

Harrogate isn't in the WY Day Ticket area.

My understanding is that the only way to include Harrogate is to get a Season ticket (not a Day ticket) including Harrogate, and I believe that works for trains only.

I don't think so.

WY Metro cause confusion by referring to the rail line beyond Horsforth to Harrogate as "Zone 6" but that's a misleading misnomer.

There is also no concept of 'Boundary Zone' extensions for WY Metro tickets either.

Ah we may be at cross-threads, I meant the WY bus ticket.

I am not aware of any concept of bus tickets going beyond West Yorkshire.

The only sort of extension that appears to exist to Harrogate is rail only, as far as I can tell. And not just rail only to Harrogate, but rail only full stop!

No worries.

We really don't do integrated ticketing properly in this country.

We do some token things, make it really complicated and then it looks like some organisations are doing something, to tick some boxes.

Countries like Switzerland show how it should be done; people from there who visit here would surely think the setup here is an absolute joke.

Looks like a First Day at £4.75 then a Leeds-Harrogate single on the 36 at £2. Northern sell advance singles for Harrogate-Horsforth at £2.70 or £3.40. If you can leave Harrogate slightly earlier, the last A2 to Leeds Bradford Airport and Bradford goes at 2015.

WY day bus ticket is slightly cheaper than the First Bus one and gives more flexibility.

I'm going to go with Ian's recommendation...there was a FirstDay Adult at £4.75 and a DaySaver at £5.00 on the First App, I couldn't work out how to buy one from WY Metro on my phone, not sure if you can or not, I don't have a Metro card.

The difference between a FirstDay and a WY DaySaver is the FirstDay will only allow you to travel on First bus services where the (MCard) WY DaySaver allows any bus operator in West Yorkshire (you can either download the 'MCard Mobile App' to purchase that or just ask to buy one on board the bus, it doesn't rely on you having a Metro Card just a confusing naming scheme)

But it won't make any odds if you're just using the 6 First service anyway as there is no advantage on the 36 Transdev service just buy a £2 single Leeds - Harrogate

Yeah, next time as johntea recommended buy your WY Day ticket on the bus. You don't have to have a MetroCard, but if you are planning to make the journey regularly in future, it may be worth it (I think if you send off for a MetroCard, they are free, and you can load a day ticket onto a card using a smartphone to save time while walking or otherwise travelling towards the bus stop).

Thanks for the advice everyone, it was a one-off day really, but I’ve learned a couple of things from your replies, so appreciated.
