Cheltenham is a very good place to split tickets between the Midlands and the South West. These days all trains call there (except some Summer Saturday HSTs).

Splitting at Brum might help too.

I've had a go myself and found:-

LEI - CNM SOR £9.85

or

LEI - BHM SOR £3.90
BHM-CNM SOR £5.45

(Not much in it splitting at Brum - only 50p cheaper)

plus

CNM - BRI £3.05

It remember hearing that the Cheltenham to Bristol fare has been reduced since last year but that may only be Cheap Day returns which you can't get on PRIV. The other fares will, of course, have gone up.

awesome thanks. i will have a play on adv!

Could you not have had a go yourself anyway8).... or play with nationalrail..... its quite handy I find in that if it suggests a train change, to try splitting the journey at that point (works for most routes). Admittedly I can end up using up 3 or 4 sheets of paper with the various permutations before finding out that the first fare is the cheapest....

Are you sure? Source?

I've been through non-stop on the NCL-NQY runs a few times, IIRC the calling pattern was always BHM-BRI-PLY with no calls in between (not even EXD s/b).

According to Transportdirect it's the same this year.

Newcastle 18:40 terminates

All others should call at CNM.

I doubt the guard would mind if you split at CNM on these trains but probs best checking if you want to go on them ;)

These are guaranteed Valentas at the start, but toward the end will be MTUs. The NXEC sets will be more random and risky to book on if you want to guarantee a Valenta.
