All Southern services east of Chichester severely disrupted tonight due to member of the public being hit by 1N92 So'ton - Brighton on New Bosham level crossing. Initial reports suggest not fatal, scene attended by air ambulance.

Looks as though the line may well be closed all night, as there is some quite comprehensive testing of the level crossing safety systems taking place.

Have heard that the person took a chance at getting across the level crossing as it is only the half barriers at Fishbourne, was also distracted at the time on their phone too apparently. Of course this could totally be wrong. If it is the case, why would the crossing need testing ?

Of course, if the crossing failed to work, then this of course needs to be looked at in full to make sure it can try to be prevented, but the person has had a lucky escape though.

The news article is slightly wrong though, its a Southern service involved, the following service was the FGW from Cardiff, but terminated at Havant.

Typically accurate local news reporting as ever. Like they say, a little information is dangerous

It was indeed New Fishbourne. The situation was complicated by there having been two differing witness accounts. One suggested a barrier issue, which means that various testing procedures then have to take place, to cover all eventualities. CCTV from the train will also be viewed to gather further evidence for any investigation. Normal working is being estimated for 03:00.

FGW were at one point reporting internally that it was a fatality.

They also ended up running 2N97 BTN-PMH back to Portsmouth Harbour from Havant at around 2030 as 1Z98.

2N97 was subsequently cancelled throughout.

Thankfully not a fatality. Male with leg injuries, hopefully not too serious.
