Lift buttons at Queensway

Do the lift buttons at Queensway do anything or are they just for decoration?

A member of staff there told me the lifts are semi-automatic, but didn't elaborate.

Not just at Queensway but there is an option in the control panels for station staff to operate to switch between automatic and requiring the buttons to be pressed. Also at very busy times the staff will control the lifts themselves; at these times the button will also do nothing.

I used to use Queensway every day. It was quite annoying that like buses, the lifts would bunch so you'd end up with 2 lifts arriving and departing at the same time! The station needed someone to regulate the lift service!

As I understand the lifts are semi-automatic unless under staff control.
