Liverpool lime street - birmingham international.

I have just got my tickets for tomorrrow which in a liverpool lime street to birmingham international return ticket.However it says on the route section via crewe.Does this mean that i have to take the london midlands insted of getting the virgin pendolino and changing at stafford for a xc service to birmingham international.Can anyone help me out.Thanks.

Virgin Pendolinos from Liverpool to Stafford go via Crewe, there is no other practical way for them to go! So yes, these trains are of course valid on Route Crewe tickets.

If they did not go via Crewe due to engineering works, the journey would take a lot longer and the tickets would still be accepted.

They can (quite rare though) be 57 hauled and go via Liverpool>Huyton>Manchester>Stafford avoiding Crewe. Can't remember when that last happened though, but surely within the last year?
