liverpool to manchester season ticket

a follow on to the southport to manchester question,why would a liverpool to manchester season ticket be valid via southport surely merseyrail will not be given any money for a liverpool to manchester season ticket

They don't decide validity based on who gets the money.

However, who gets the money is, at least, related to whether the route is valid.

But, as it is very obviously valid on Merseyrail (such as Moorfields to Liverpool South Parkway, or James St to Lime St), they will get some revenue anyway.
