Are ALL Scotrail 170s being repainted as quite a few 170/4s still need to be treated whereas all 170/3s are done and currently it seems the ex PTE units are being systematically worked on

I believe 315805 & 815 are at Ilford for relivery. Both have been at the depot for a considerable amount of time now (20+ days).

Not all, just most I think. The Mk2 170s (393-396, 426-434, 450-461 & 472-478) are to receive relivery and interior refurbishment into the saltire scheme. The Mk1 170s (401-424, 470 & 471) are only getting a relivery at this time.
Hope this helps,
Alex

Query - what is the difference between a Mk1 class 170 and Mk2 class 170 ?

The only difference I know of is the headlights. The Mk1 170s have the original headlights with the three separate bulbs, whereas the Mk2 style have a combined LED marker and tail light. I'll post some pics later, to show what I mean. Also, the Mk1s were built between 1999-2002 and the Mk2s 2003-2005, so there is a small age difference.
I should explain the 170s aren't formally divided into Mk1 or Mk2, that's just a way of telling them apart I've seen used before.

I think that SPT 170472 is now recieving the 'saltire' livery. That'll leave 474, 475, 477 and 478 in the SPT livery

Just to confuse things, I think 170474 went into works a couple of weeks ago instead of 472. However, with 474 being released this week, 472 has now gone in to replace it. Order has been 473, 476, 474 and now 472 - I was on 472 2 weeks ago and it was in SPT still, with my trip back being on ex-works 473, coincidentally.

334030 has replaced 334009 as the next one at Brodies.

I'm in Glasgow next week for a Bruce Springsteen show and will be train spotting before it

Am I correct these SPT units retain an SPT interior colour scheme

weird how the newer units are being refurbished ahead of the older units unless the older ones were done at another time

334030 is now out, 334xxx has gone to Brodies.

I was on the Compass Oban trip yesterday and saw 156492 now painted into the Blue ScotRail livery. Is this the 1st ex First one to be done?

156499 returned in Barbie livery after repairs as I saw at Queen Street when in Scotland for the Bo'ness Diesel gala last July.

156499 has been a bit unlucky of late and was involved in two accidents - on the Oban line in June 2010, after which it was out of service for a considerable period, then Dungrait, near Stranraer in October 2012. It was after this latter accident that it was repainted in ScotRail colours.

OK, makes sense now, I hadn't realised it had been involved another accident.

Ah yes, I forgot 499 was involved in Dungrait. I actually thought it would get reliveried when it was being repaired after its accident on the West Highland line.

156418 moved from Norwich to Wolverton for relivery into Greater Anglia (White livery) and DDA mods earlier today. Saw it passing Leicester at 12:03.
