Does anyone know why Arriva were running so many two car sets between Llandudno and Chester and on to Manchester today? Travel today has been cramped to say the least. <(

Maybe all the 3 car-175's are in the wrong places due to the derailment in Shrewsbury over the weekend.

Do they have set diagrams for 2 and 3 Cars?

Most the time unless something messes up like it did at Shrewsbury,. They seem to like 5 3 cars and 1 2 car on the North Wales coast Llandudno to Manchester via Warrington

This is very probably the reason - it will probably take a day or two to get stock back in its right rotation. Nearly every service that was due to run south of Shrewsbury from Chester and Crewe was prevented from doing so in the normal manner for 26 hours over the weekend, with some being routed via Wolverhampton.

Yes. The diagrams are separate with the 3 Cars diagrammed to the busiest services as far as possible. Why I say as far as possible, this is difficult because the Diagram might be on a quieter service in the morning and a busier one later in the day or vice versa.

Monday aside, it's rare to find anything other than the booked class and type on this route. If there's a shortage of 3-car units in Chester one night, then the diagrams out of Chester to South Wales the next morning usually get lumbered with 2-car sets. North Wales-Manchester gets priority for 175/1s.

Nth Wales/Manchester should get the priority that's where the growth in traffic is ,as for Chester Sth Wales, that would be the little used 0515 out of Chester(little used until Cardiff commute stations are reached)
