Daft, I know, but considering watching Tranmere V Notts County on Saturday!

TfW and National Rail are suggesting the following routing and fares from Llandudno to Rock Ferry

Via Shotton, Bidston and Hamilton Square £26.10. - 4 trains
No fare shown for the obvious route with just one change at Chester. - 2 trains

Bizarrely put in Llandudno to Liverpool and your are routed via Chester (and Rock Ferry, of course!) for £23.90.

More ammunition for a simplified fare structure, I suppose, but I bet they will simply scrap the £23.90 option!

Any ideas for a cheaper Llandudno to Rock Ferry day return on Saturday, other than buying the Liverpool ticket and travelling short!

new.trainsplit.com suggests splitting flexible returns at Bebington (stop before Rock Ferry) for a total of £24.45 plus 17p share of saving. All trains between Chester and Rock Ferry appear to call at Bebington so far as I can see.

Using the TPE mixing deck, I can get the £26.10 fare, valid via Chester.

Try Llandudno to Heswall @ £18.90

It's an off-peak return with code 8A, which does purport to restrict break of journey.
That's also a very circuitous route, although I doubt anyone would notice.
Llandudno to Upton is also the same price - it would even be possible to walk to the ground from Upton (~3 miles).

Thanks for the tips!
Probably buy a Llandudno - Upton ticket, can’t imagine there will be any issues alighting/boarding at Rock Ferry.

The routing via Chester makes more sense this Saturday as half of the Wrexham-Bidston trains are replaced by buses in order to provide extra capacity in Cardiff because of the rugby. Although I think it is disappointing to rob trains from the Bidston and Conwy Valley lines because of a rugby match 150 miles away!
