The return fare is £58.60 - does anyone know if splitting anywhere will shave a few pounds off?

It's a day trip on Monday 2 August, no railcard, early start and late home! Any help greatly received!

Had a quick look at splitting, this is the first I found:

Llanelli - Newport SWales Anytime day return - £15.10

Newport SWales - Wareham various:

dep. 09.44 arr. 13.27 £13.50 Advance single (change at Southampton Central)

or dep. 10.44 arr. 14.27 £12.00 Advance single (change at Southampton Central

Wareham - Newport SWales

dep. 18.53 arr. 22.37 £8.00 Advance single
dep. 19.57 arr. 23.34 £8.00 Advance single

both changing at Southampton Central

Otherwise it is £39.10 for an Off peak return route Dorchester West or £40.90 for an Off Peak return route Salisbury, which still saves you a bit on the ticket you quoted. All the above for one person without a railcard.

Monday 2 August, no railcard, early start and late home!

Just had a go and found this.

Llanelli - Newport S Wales
SDR £15.10
Newport S Wales - Bristol Temple Meads
SDR £11.70
Bristol Temple Meads - Dorchester West Route Yeovil
CDR £14.70
(Restriction P6 - Departure After 0700 Mon-Fri - This is fine as the 0528 from LLE won't get into BRI until 0751)
Dorchester South - Wareham Dorset
CDR £5.80

Total: £47.30

Not huge savings but a fair bit.

I tried splitting at most major points such as Westbury/Taunton/Castle Cary/Yeovil/Swansea even Maiden Newton, not much progress on top of the Newport-Dorchester ticket I'm afraid. :(

Just had a look at the booking system and it seems that the 0528 would leave you with a massive wait of 118 minutes at Temple Meads as the next Weymouth departure would be the 0949. Hence the 0618 or the 0644 might be more suitable, otherwise the 0306 would connect with the 0723 leaving you with 9 minutes to hop across Temple Meads station.
