What was the reason that london midland diagramed their 10 class 153 units with such low utilisation? Was it that they did not want to pay the leasing fees? Obviously too late now as 3 have scarpered but if i was in charge of them I would have...
    1 on marston vale.
1 on coventry to nun eaton.
3 coupled together on a snow hill diagram.
    1 coupled to a 3 car 150 (now a 170) on a snow hill diagram.
    2 on chase line.
    2 at depot.
Pretty amazing that they are down to 4 diagrams after they originaly had stourbridge and wolverhampton to walsall(?). Why have they under utilised them recently?

Only Worcester crews on the 'dark side' sign Class 153s, as for the rest I can't help shed much light, other than they used to be used to make a 3-car 150 a 4-car formation. Now that 150s have reverted to 2-cars they can double up to 4. Today a 153 was running with 150001.

As from the December timetable LM 153's will be used attached to a 170 on most Shrewsbury to New St services to provide more capacity as these services were reduced from 3 to 2 car trains whilst LM were short of stock awaiting the 172's during the last 2 years

As regards 153's on Snow Hill lines, All Drivers - Worcs,Snow Hill & Leam- sign 153's. Only Worcs & Stourbridge Conductors sign them.
153366 is due to return from Northern in December.

Worcester diagrams for 153's in December are as follows:

153+170/5 Ecs to Hfd then 07.30 Hfd - Nst. 153+170/5 Ecs to Malv then 06.49 G mal - Nst. 153+170/6 Ecs Tys to Worcs then 13.17 & 16.17 Worcs - Dorridge & rtn's.153+170/5 15.49 Nst - Hfd & Rtn followed by 19.19 Nst - Hfd as far as Worcs (153 detached at Worcs SH). Diagrams are M-F only.
    Other 153's diagrammed for Nun-Cov,Marston Vale,Chase Line & Salops.

Forgot to say both units out in morning go to Tys after arrival at New St & come out again in the PM so 2 needed.

I thought the 75mph top speed would prevent 153's from running Shrewsbury services?

Also, I've noticed signs go up on platforms at Chase line stations north of Walsall saying '4 car stop' and 'SDO'.

How are the going to introduce SDO on the Chase, all platforms north of Walsall are 3 car length, and I thought that line was suffering from a rolling stock shortage?

Given all this, what's the deal with Marston Vale services? There was talk of making the line 153 only, but they need two car trains for one particular working and the platforms apparently aren't long enough for two 153s... but with the 150s now going, what's going to happen? Or will one of the four remaining 150s (if that happens) work the Marston Vale? If so, will it receive LM livery???

As has been said across a few of the currently active LM 150 threads, London Midland are retaining three 150/1s in the form of 150105/7/9.

One of these will continue to be utilised on the Marston Vale line, one on a Birmingham to Hereford diagram and the third unit spare or undergoing maintenance at Tyseley.

There was talk at the LM 150 Farwell from staff that a 150 will be kept to run this service.

    EDIT: Too slow.

It just underlines how badly executed the West/East/CrossCountry split of Central Trains was. LM ends up 8 (well, 10 officially) 153s with at least 4 completely out of action, EMT are forced to run what should be a core service (Derby - Crewe) with a single dogbox.

And then there's the awkward split of 2-car and 3-car 170s!

Will 105/7/9 receive full LM livery?

Regarding 153's on the Salop & Chase lines
The line speed on the wolves to Salop road is only 70mph and 75mph between wolves & new St so there is no problem with the 153 + 170 combinations
And the SDO boards that have been installed on the Chase line stations are due to 2x 170's being diagrammed on these services from December timetable

What do you mean "And the SDO boards that have been installed on the Chase line stations are due to 2x 170's being diagrammed on these services from December timetable?"

What I said ! As of Dec 11th LM will be running trains formed of 2 x 2 car 170's on the Birmingham New St to Rugeley TV route ! And as all station platforms between Walsall & Rugeley can only accommodate 3 coaches LM have erected SDO (selective door operation) boards at all stns !

I didn't think 2 car 170's were fitted with SDO?

Does that effectivly rule out platform extensions for the forseeable future?

And where are the extra 170's going to come from?

I thought LM had a major shortage of 170's?

All LM 170's fitted with SDO.
LM short of 172's hence use of 170's on dark side from Dec.

But doesn't that mean that mean that some Shrewsbury services will be reduced from 4 to 3 car, so that Chase services can be lengthened?

All LM 170's diagrammed in peak hours both AM/PM but there is spare capacity during the day which is now going to be utilised to increase capacity & cover for shortages.

So will all Chase Line workings be 4 car, or will it just be peak trains?

The service will be a mix of 3 & 4 car formations as will the Salop to new St services

I'm very glad to hear that. There are always a lot of LM 170s sat on Tyseley during the middle part of the day not seeing any use until the big ECS move to New Street at about half 4.

It's also good to see extra carriages being added to the Chase line at peak times.

London Midland really should have gone for that additional order of twenty six further 172 vehicles.

Worcester have been diagrammed several ECS moves to/from TYS/New St during the day so suspect majority of workings will be peak hours.

Not quite that much out of action. Just "out of action" as in not rostered to be in daily service.
