ORR gives green light for LNER ‘801s’ to enter traffic
19/04/2019
https://www.railmagazine.com/news/fleet/orr-gives-green-light-for-lner-801s-to-enter-traffic
Class 801 electric multiple units have received authorisation from the Office of Rail and Road to enter passenger traffic.
The authorisation, granted on March 27, allows LNER’s 12 five-car Class 801/1s and 30 nine-car Class 801/2s to be put into service as they are accepted following commissioning and mileage accumulation. They will be able to operate in five, nine and ten-car formations.

In its letter to Hitachi, which built the trains, the ORR states: “For LNER bi-mode or electric Class 800/801 trains placed into traffic before modifications are implemented to address inter-car surfing and climbing risks, the manufacturer must reach agreement with the operator, LNER, on a time-bound plan which provides details of how these risks will be effectively managed and mitigated in the interim whilst modifications are implemented. This condition applies to both trains in service and those in service or stabled.”

The manufacturer must also record harmonic footprints for each train prior to them entering service, while LNER must complete a suitable and sufficient risk assessment of the risks related to platform stepping distances in all locations they will serve before putting them in traffic.
*A wishful thinking
1. Smooth delivery of Class80X.

As a small aside I've had a few goes at 0-100 with the four coach scotrail hst and your looking at two and a quarter miles and two and a half minutes to get hit that mark.
Wow...that is impressive. I managed to record 0-100mph on an EMT buffer fitted 2+6 set in 3 mins 10 secs - so under 3 minutes is great!!
A friend of mine tried to record some GWR 2+4 0-60 times, but found drivers struggling with wheelslip. Which are the best stations to get a decent 0-100mph timing from without too much wheelslip?

Here is a link to the 2 + 6 set performance! -

With reference to the post above about ORR authorisation- is this still just to Leeds or now extended to York and beyond? I’m curious as no specific limitations and it does reference recording Harmonic interference which could be construed as the areas that had interference problems?

Gentle reminder that discussion of diagrams and what services that the IETs will be appearing on should be confined to this thread.

Thanks,

Is there any seating plans kicking about that show the best seats to reserve to ensure you get a full window. I had the layouts of the Mk4's to know the best seats off to a tee.

What is the issue with stepping distances??
It doesn’t actually say there’s an issue, all new classes have to be assessed for stepping distance at every platform called at anyway. Perhaps it is still outstanding somewhere on the network.

I’ve just booked some tickets for July and I’d say a decent number of Leeds services are coming up as Azuma operated by looking at the seating plans by then.

Let’s hope they are or else people’s seat reservations are going to be all over the place if a Mk4 substitutes.

What's happened to 5Q04 (1129 Peterborough to Retford) today? Looks like it encountered some issues between Peterborough and Grantham and sat blocking the down fast for 2 hours. Has only just started moving again by the looks of it. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N01217/2019/04/22/advanced
Reported as signalling issues at the point the four tracks reduce to two before Stoke Tunnel. I was on a southbound service and we passed it sitting at the junction. Northbound services were diverted over the slow line to pass it. I assume the points were either not switching back or the signal would 't clear.

I've heard on another forum that the signalling issues were separate and it was a failure of the unit? I was on a northbound LNER past the 800 and got held up by signalling issues just before Newark (ended up being talked through a signal at red just before the station), and it doesn't really make sense where the 800 stopped as it was only a little past Tallington on the 4 track section so quite a way off Stoke tunnel.

I notice there are some interesting paths in RTT, that I assume are for Azuma and that seem to break new ground. Can anyone confirm these are Azuma tests?

24th April 2019
22:23 Doncaster Carr to Middlesbrough
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K01835/2019/04/24/advanced

02:20 Middlesbrough to York
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K01834/2019/04/25/advanced

Sunday 28th April 2019
10:59 York to Harrogate via Knaresborough
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N62371/2019/04/28/advanced

12:05 Harrogate to Doncaster via York
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/N62372/2019/04/28/advanced

The trains to/from Harrogate have some extended ‘photo stops’ at each station on the route.

What is the reason for the York - Harrogate run when they are not going to run on this line?

Just guessing but for diversionary or emergency routing on the KGX > Harrogate trains? Instead of going into Leeds then out to Harrogate that way or possibly just the easier pathing route they could do at the time.

Or is it more likely that the ECS moves will run via York to Doncaster Carr instead of the current route for HSTs to Neville Hill via Leeds?
